Chapter 27 - Watch Me Farm!

"Welcome. Edmund, Ambrose, Lily, and who might you be?" Acting very amicably, Otheman was screaming inside. He had barely started accepting that the twins would help him build his farm, yet here they were bringing in another stranger!

"Hello, my name is David, a mage of the Academy tasked with the protection of these two geniouses." Despite his higher status David didn't show any sign of his status.

Otheman on the other hand heard this and quickly bowed, "Sir, it is an honor to have your presence in my humble territory." Internally he was yelling at himself and the twins for agreeing to have others come to his territory.

"No need to be so respectful. I am simply a guard for these two and nothing more." Pausing he looked at the stones being constantly built, "In fact you might truly become a noble with the amount of planning you have here."

Seeing David nod with an appreciating gaze without greed, Otheman finally let out a sigh of relief as he turned his attention to the main characters of this project, "So, Lily and Ambrose, what do you think of my territory? Although I am sure it isn't the best for farming, what do you think you can do?"

Ambrose looked shocked and spoke up first, "What do you mean not suitable for farming! This is way better than our territory!"

Lily nodded as she spoke in support, "I am sure this land is fertile enough to support most crops."

Hearing this Otheman looked excited as he asked, "Can you specifically make it so the farm is composed of grains?"

"Grain?" x2 Looking at each other the twins started making plans right away.

"I can make the big river split to fload the steps for rice."

"Isn't a grain that needs less water better? I think I can get some enhanced plants that can deal with drought."

"No this river is likely to flood whatever we want to build quickly. Remember we only have five months."

"So fatter grain?"

"Yeah that would be best. I think I just need to focus on making flood walls..."

Seeing the twins so excited to get to work made Otheman let out a sigh of relief as he decided to simply give some help to twins. Ordering ten subordinates to follow their instructions he was about to turn to leave when he was interupted.

"Hey Otheman? We will need to teach these people how to effectively farm without us, so make sure these people can learn quickly." Ambrose spoke up while looking at the servants with hesitation.

"Umm, well, okay. I will send two of my smartest servants."

"Good. Also do you have rice here?" Lily on the other hand was excited to start some experiments.

"Sure."

*Whooosh*

Seeing the water fill the field he had prepared, Ambrose spoke up to the servnts behind him, "Alright! Follow what I taught you!"

The servants holding baskets of seedlings followed and started planting them into the muddy ground. Under Lily's command he had split the fields into several differnt sections that were going to be treated differently.

One area planted seeds on dry land and later filling the area with water. Next area had peaple planting seeds on wet land and refilling with water after the area dried a bit. Other areas had similar planting methods as they mostly involved different starting planting conditions. This area in particular was deeling with seedlings that had already sprout and were being planted in barely muddy ground.

Although Ambrose knew many techniques to farm, he didn't know what would be best for each and every plant. So this was all in a hope to find how effective this farming technique was for rice.

It was great for learning more about farming, but terrible for the poor servants who had to learn every type of farming style while being berrated by an angry Ambrose. This time was no different as Ambrose yelled at everyone who made a mistake. Granted he no longer yelled at them for every small mistake like in the beggining.

David who was watching from the side felt strange. These were several adults who were all following a child's instructions carefully in case he would yell at them. Sure he had been yelled at plenty as well, but he didn't take him as seriously as these servants did.

It had only been a month, yet every farm was finally planted. Now the main stage of care would come later when they would need to pull weeds and notice the differences from regular rice plants and weeds.

Lily on the other hand focused more on exploration and detailing plants in the region. Her main task required time more than anything, so she had a lot more spare time compared to Ambrose. That didn't mean either of them were having more or less fun than the other, it only meant Lily had gained a full book bursting with new plant species.

David had to put more effort in watching over Lily as she moved a lot throughout the day, but today it was differnt as the twins excitedly watched as their last prepared farm was being planted.

"Is this really it?"

"We could build a couple more farms like this over there, but I don't think we have enough time."

"Yeah, *sigh* This land is perfect for farming with rocks all around that help direct water."

"I was expecting some type of challenge when Otheman told us about this, but the entire time I was able to just enjoy myself."

"Yeah... *sigh* If only we had more time we could make something better..."

"Indeed..."

Seeing the twins remenice, David spoke up, "Do either of you really believe this place can truly be perfect for better farming? From what I have seen, you have brought the most out of the land from what is possible."

The twins who were simply smiling while looking at thier work turned to David with a look of disdain.

"Fool."

"Ignorant."
