Naruto was eating his food which like the old man Hokage had said was his favorite, you got it right, Ramen.
His thoughts wandered while he ate and slurped his noodles from the large bowl.
'Okay, it's obvious I've been transmigrated into Naruto Uzumaki, and looking at my body I'm nowhere near the canon age hell did I even start the academy?'
When Naruto calmed down a bit as he ate, he realized he was "recalling" memories of the old Naruto but for now, they were only fragments, but even those fragments gave him context to work with. He didn't know if he would gain the full memories but he decided to take what he could get and make the best of it.
One thing he was worried about was what type of transmigration this was, did the original Naruto die and he inhabited his body, or was this a takeover?
He was a normal university student before this but he wasn't cold-hearted or ruthless, so the possibility that he "killed" his childhood hero to take his place did make him feel guilty and a bit upset before he shook his head.
'There's no use feeling guilty what's done is done, it's better I use my attention on more important and pressing matters like staying alive in this cutthroat world'
"Are you alright?"
Realizing he stopped eating his ramen and most likely his expression was going gloomy, naruto was still surprised when he looked and saw Kakashi who took off his anbu mask and asked him that question in his bored tone but had a slight worry in it.
"No wait forget I said anything, it was stupid of me.....just know you're safe now"
Kakashi looked a bit embarrassed as he chastised himself and tried to sound reassuring but it was obvious by his nervousness he was a bit out of his dept. Naruto was a bit confused until he realized what he meant, it was the first memory he gained after waking up from the original and suffice to say it wasn't exactly....pleasant
The original Naruto had been enrolled in the academy for nearly a month, when on his way home to his apartment, he was ambushed by a group of villagers that he could bet were civilians or at most low-level ninjas, one of them hit him on the back of the head hard with something, he didn't know what it was only that it was blunt and the force caused him to start bleeding from his head, what he did pick up was they took him to a secluded place an alley or something.
If they weren't hurrying along then they were muttering curses at the delirious Naruto, talking about how he was a demon, how the third was a fool for letting him train in the academy, and how he took their loved ones.
Thankfully before they were able to do what they intended to do to the 6-year-old jinchuriki, the last thing the old Naruto saw before he went unconscious was Kakashi in his anbu attire as he appeared from the adjacent roof and sped towards him and his kidnappers with his arm incased in large amounts of lightning.
"It's okay Inu-san besides you saved me and uh is Inu your name?"
Naruto asked politely with a twitching smile.
It wasn't like he could call him Kakashi when "he" had never met him in his life!
"pfft! well that would be bad if it was the case as for my name....it's Kakashi Hatake"
Kakashi snorted at that but his expression and amusement disappeared as he introduced himself and it felt like he wanted to say more but refrained himself as he looked at Naruto with a mix of emotions.
Nostalgia, sadness, remorse, regret, shame, happiness and relief.
".......If you need anything Naruto just ask me and I'll get it for you"
"Sure Kakashi-nii!"
Kakashi stiffened and Naruto wondered if he went too fast giving him an affectionate suffix but internally sighed in relief as he saw Kakashi relax and felt a bit of the awkwardness disappear from his eyes as he gave one of his signature eye smiles.
"Anytime Naruto"
Kakashi again donned his mask and disappeared in thin air.
".....Awesome"
One thing Naruto couldn't deny was that the tricks and jutsus ninjas used even casually were amazing and seeing them first hand was even greater than seeing them on a screen, a part of him was giddy that he would be able to learn these things and more soon, the part that wanted to be optimistic and looked at the bright side of his situation.
And for the moment he was happy to let this part of him take control as he really didn't want to give himself an aneurysm thinking of the many threats he would have to face.
Hokage Tower, main office:
Hiruzen Sarutobi was sitting on his desk but unlike usual he wasn't filling paperwork, reading a certain orange book he kept hidden in a secret compartment in his drawer, or smoking his pipe, if anything his eyes were sharp and his face was stern as another Anbu appeared in front of his desk kneeling this one was a woman with long purple hair and a cat mask wielding a sheathed katana.
"Report"
Hiruzen simply said as the female Anbu stood up straight.
"Hai Hokage-sama as per your orders we delivered the surviving kidnappers to T&I, Interrogating head, Jonin Ibiki Morino personally went through interrogations of each of the men and women, each of them have had a history of loss 6 years ago at the Kyuubi incident some had been forced to leave the ninja force due to injuries while others had lost friends or family, we believe the motive for this attempt against Uzumaki-san's life was a case of extreme hatred"
Hiruzen's expression didn't change as countless thoughts went through his head.
"Each of them is to be executed and their records erased, start a rumor regarding their disappearance and supposed deaths and how it was linked to an attempt against Uzumaki Naruto"
Hiruzen himself believes he isn't perfect despite one of his titles being the second God of Shinobi, he knew his hands were tied regarding the villagers mostly the civilians' attitude against Naruto, he couldn't just have the entire Village's population get a mindwipe when the secret regarding Naruto's Jinchuriki status was leaked.
But while he couldn't help much to alleviate Naruto's loneliness aside from spending any free time he had when he wasn't busy managing the Village with his surrogate grandson, the ignorance people showed Naruto was already worrying coming from the Ninja village that's core was centered around love and support being the Will of Fire, but the attempt of kidnapping and murder that happened was a first and something that went beyond the line for Hiruzen's tolerance, love for his village or not.
He didn't blink an eye as he ordered for their execution since while he could sympathize with them for their loss considering he also lost his beloved wife 6 years ago due to that damned incident he wouldn't tolerate them killing the last remnant of his successor and his wife, perhaps with this fear tactic and rumor even if Naruto's position didn't improve at least it would dissuade any other fanatic villager from getting any bright ideas.
He already failed in making sure that the child had a normal childhood.
"And Neko aside from Inu I want you to also join him in Naruto-kun's protection detail, your duties will be the same as the ones I have Kakashi do in regard to him, also in under ANY circumstance are the both of you forbidden from leaving watch from Naruto-kun at most in regards to missions and assignment I will take only one of you not both, if you both are ordered by anyone to report to me or do anything through my authority I want you to apprehend them and take them to Ibiki's department, Understood"
"Hai Hokage-sama! I will make sure Naruto Uzumaki is protected alongside Inu-senpai"
"Good, dismissed"
And like that, the cat-masked Anbu disappeared in a shunshin as Hiruzen sighed tiredly and looked outside at the village.
"Sometimes I wonder if things have truly gotten better or not sensei"
