Chapter 11 - The student council

"Aah, why the hell did I say that? I can't believe I said something like that." I kept saying while turning left and right on the bed.

Two days had passed since our trip to the beach. Two days since I spoke those words.

After saying that I couldn't look her in the eyes anymore because I was sure to die of embarrassment.

On the way back I sat with Gyu who at some point took a break from talking with Ken and started speaking to me, who was so into my thoughts about how I could live with that embarrassment, that I didn't even hear what he was saying.

I only heard him saying "Don't worry, I would also be speechless if it was my first time doing it."

I was ready to ask him "Do what?", but I immediately understood what he meant by looking at his smirking face.

Which somehow made me feel even more embarrassed even though what Gyu thought had happened was too far from the truth.

I guess I'm too innocent for my own bad.

On the contrary, Sato-san didn't seem to be bothered at all by that. She was chatting as normal with the other girls.

Although I'm sure that I saw her blushing when I made that announcement.

And in those two days that had passed, we didn't talk at all. Not that I had the courage to talk to her.

"Haru, I'm going to work. Don't forget to pass by the school to see the results."

The results? Ah, right. Today is the day we get to know our exam results.

At least I don't have to fear anything about that. I know that I did well.

"All right, I'll go in a bit. Take care, Mum." I said while still being on top of my bed, finally stopping wiggling around.

Soon after my mum left I started dressing and preparing to head out.

It didn't take much as I knew more or less what I wanted to wear.

Actually, I just picked one of the clothes sets I had bought with Sato when we went to the shopping center.

Thus I headed out and started walking towards the school while having the scorching sun hitting me continuously.

But that's my fault for wanting to go on foot and not using any public transport. I guess because it had been some time since the last time I left the house.

Although it didn't take much for me to reach the school grounds.

Upon passing the two metallic gates I came across a crowd of students who had gathered around the bulletin board to search for their name.

I went to look for my results at the corresponding for my grade bulletin board.

I didn't have to go through all the names as I knew I would be one of the top ten. And I was right.

My name was the second one, while Sato was right below me, occupying the third place.

At the top of our grade was a girl named Miwa Kageyama. Although her name didn't ring any bells, I was sure I had heard it before. I just couldn't remember where.

With the edge of my eye, I saw Sato silently approaching me.

"Takahashi-kun, thanks for helping me study. Judging from the results you did a very good job." She said with a smile on her face.

"Naah, I don't deserve the credits. You did all the work. I only gave you some pointers." I replied, slowly scratching my head.

"I suppose you're Takahashi Haru." I heard a voice coming from behind me.

Upon turning my head I came across a tall boy with dark hair, brown eyes with sunglasses who was wearing our school uniform.

Right next to him was standing silently a girl with long dark hair and red eyes who was also wearing our school uniform.

"President and Vice President?" I exclaimed in surprise.

It wasn't common for me to talk with someone I didn't know, especially if that someone was the student council president. Thus as it was normal I started feeling anxious because of that and because I didn't know why they came to find me of all people.

I mean, I was trying to keep a low profile all this time to avoid any unnecessary conflict or encounter, like this one.

Though I guess all that effort went to smoke after the beginning of my relationship with Sato.

"I'd like you to follow us to the student council's office." He said with a serious tone.

"A-alright," I replied, still hesitant.

"Miss Sato, I'd also appreciate it if you too come with us." He continued.

Sato also complied with his words and thus we started heading inside the building.

A single look around me was all it took for me to realize that everyone was staring at us.

They were whispering one to another trying not to be heard by the others or by us.

Did they know something we didn't or they were just making their speculations?

I don't know, and I don't think I have to think more about it as soon I'll find out firsthand.

The building was generally empty as all the students were outside looking at their results. Though there were teachers who were roaming the corridors, probably organizing something.

Upon entering the student council's office, Sato and I got in after the president while the vice president closed the door behind us.

"All right then, I won't take much of your time. I'd like to ask you two if you'd like to become the president and the vice president of the student council." He said as soon as he got behind his desk.

That caught me and Sato off guard as we both looked at each other in wonder.

"But shouldn't the members be decided by the students?" Sato asked.

"And I also don't think that I have the qualifications to accept such a demanding position." I continued.

He took a step back, turned behind, and looked from the window.

"What do you think it takes to become a student council member?" He asked.

"Being upright and having good grades?" Sato replied while at the same time asking as she wasn't sure herself.

"Being famous, able to overcome every problem, and hard-working?" I also replied to the question.

"Yes, you're right. Well then, let's take a look at you two. Both of you occupied the highest positions at the exams, you are hard-working seeing your results, you are upright as there has never been an incident involving any of you and lastly, both of you are already pretty famous." He said.

"But we still have to be voted by the rest of the students, isn't that right?" Sato asked once again.

"Yeah, that's right. But you don't have to worry about that."

"And why's that?" I asked as suddenly the whole thing seemed to be getting quite interesting.

"Look, the students will most of the time vote for the most famous person because they like them and want to see them occupying a place of power. But there are also the students who will vote for the person who thinks they are best to hold that power judging by their standards or by the person's exam results. And you two are at the top of your grade and you're the most famous couple in our school. So it's certain that you'll become members of the student council if you take part in the voting." He explained.

Sato and I looked at each other thinking the same thing. If we should accept that offer or not.

Both the president and the vice president were waiting for our answer while looking at us with somewhat devilish eyes.

I took a deep breath and I was ready to give a reply.
