One of the best asoiaf Fics out there by the mere fact human rationality wins in history for once even if just once admittedly it is a sı facilitated extrapolated rationality but still!!!

Lucerys (1)

"It is traditional for the sons of the seahorse to be given a taste of a seafarer's life when young." - Archmaester Gyldayn

High Tide, 281 AC

Lucerys Velaryon, Lord of the Tides and Master of Ships, was home for the first time in half a year. His brother, Jacaerys, had been the one ruling their holding for them, and it was a letter of his that saw him return in haste to the keep of House Velaryon.

Their youngest brother, Alyn, was returning from the Free Cities.

Alyn had always been a somewhat strange boy. The youngest son of their father was now a man grown, all of twenty name-days and with what seemed to be a voracious appetite for knowledge. Shortly before dying, their father had insisted on having him captain a ship of his own on a tour through some of the Free Cities. And now he was back... Lucerys could only wish he had chosen to return at a moment when the realm did not seem to be about to burst into flames.

The ship he had been given, the White Tide was a hulk, a fairly fast one, and so Lord Lucerys only had a day after his own arrival to High Tide to prepare.

It was noon when the White Tide docked on the harbor, And from it descended Alyn. All of twenty name-days, Lucerys saw that his younger brother had cut his hair short, and was growing a short beard. His light blue eyes seemed just as full of fire as they had been when he left, but there was something else to him. He walked more confidently, his smile was more sincere, and he also seemed to have gained some muscle.

The two older siblings watched, and Jacaerys was the first one to say a word. Before Alyn was within earshot, and with an amused grin he commented, "It seems that Essos does agree with our little brother after all."

It was shortly after that, that Alyn reached them, and surprisingly, hugged them both tight.

"Gods, it's good to be back home. How fares the capital Brother?" Those were the first words of Alyn Velaryon upon seeing his siblings. Lucerys was... confused. Alyn had always insisted on his wish to travel as far as Asshai and to see all that their forefather Corlys had. If anything, this was the first time that Lucerys had heard him taking any sort of interest in politics...

That was something that he was dreading, for the condition that the King had given for giving Lucerys leave to greet his brother here, was that both of them were to go to King's Landing.

"Ah, but I believe it would be better if we went inside soon. Gods know I've been far from home for long enough." Alyn commented, and Lucerys could only wonder what had caused his youngest brother to change so.

The walk into the keep itself saw them meeting with Jacaerys' child. Monford was but four name-days, and his blue eyes shone with the excitement of youth. They all soon sat to dine. After a few moments of silence, a glance from Jacaerys was enough to make Lucerys take a deep breath. If he would have to tell his brother about this, better to be done with it now...

"Alyn... I'm afraid that you will have to leave High Tide with me. His Grace has requested your presence at court."

He could see his young brother's face turn pale -or paler than their natural fair skin- and then contort on a deep frown.

"I see," Alyn said, "I suppose that I have no chance. Good thing I have not unpacked my things yet." There was some bitterness to that small jape, although he still smiled at it. Drinking from his wine he could only add. "Dear brother, if I am to join you in that den of snakes and vipers, then I hope you get me up to speed with how much of a mess has been allowed to flourish before His Grace and the Prince of Dragonstone."

Lucerys only nodded, wondering what had happened to his brother.

Author's Note: So, here we are, I have no idea of why I do this to myself, but here's yet another SI, and yet another Velaryon. No, I'm not abandoning my other stories, but I felt the need to let this out of my chest. I am still undecided as to how seriously will this fic take itself (although full on Crack it won't be), and how much wish-fulfillment will I allow myself here. I guess we'll see.

Either way, read y'all soon.
