It was a month in coma and Josh was in the same dark hole, It was becoming the usual life for Josh. It always felt like he was trapped in a world he had no control over, nothing he did could get him out of it, his memory only had bits and pieces of that horrible morning that his parents were taken. He just couldn't shake the images of his mother blood spattered all over the cushion, or him walking around the whole scene aimlessly in a trance.
He is still not awake? Inspector Dalu asked Nurse sally, who was on duty that day. He is not sir, she had already gotten weary answering to his frequent visits and persistent requests to the health status of mr Josh Odunze. when do you think, he
wake up because we need to complete this investigation of his parents deaths, it's already one month and we haven't even had as much as a headway since. the inspector almost pleaded. Sir, we do not have that within our control, he will wake when he will, we at bennies hospital can only give him the best care until that happens but for now there is not much anyone can do, Sally responded in a matter of fact tone because she couldn't understand how he could act like the hospital was helping withhold information from him.
Dali watched her intently as he realized, it was a futile venture coming to the hospital every three days, the young man would probably transcend from there, he thought to himself as he smirked, alright here is my number. call me once he wakes up. Dalu tells Sally as he writes down his number in the pocket sticker jot sheet that he had Swiftly pulled out of his chest pocket. Sally picks it and nods in acceptance.
You are no longer a child, you cannot be sleeping at this time, it already 10.30 am. What kind of human being sleeps like that on a Tuesday morning.I will not let you become a useless boy. I will not. I know how much your mother and I suffered to birth you Josh could hear his father bellowing from his room. It was becoming the normal tone of the house and Josh was now used to it, so he just shakes his head and chuckled, for some reason, he reaches out for his baby picture with his father smiling proudly down at him, I love you too dad, he said and suddenly in a swoosh, he could hear the echoing in his mind going from loud to faint "son come home, son come home" and it was both his parents bloodied and stretching out their arms to him, as he finds himself being sucked into a very dark bottomless hole or so it seemed, and he wakes up. He opened his eyes and was greeted with gadgets of all kinds attached to his body. instead of confusion, he had a cold sense of clarity, somehow he knew that his parents were dead, murdered and he was in some form of sleep since then.
Thank you Jesus, you are awake, wow! Sally exclaimed as she walked into his room and found him sitting up and fully alert. Josh didn't even as much as blink, his eyes were not even alive. Josh you are awake, aren't you happy to be back here, Sally asked as she walked towards him to check that all the gadgets were in place and that he had not pulled any of the tubes while trying to wake up. Josh aren't you happy to beck here, Sally asked again and Josh let out a forced smile. Yea, I am glad I am back, call me my father's lawyer, he quickly asked. hmm glad to put a voice to the face. she said as she looked pleasantly surprised or she acted so, okay sure! Sally said, as she watched how very in control, he seemed.
It was like he had been just sleeping or something like that, you look like you had just been sleeping Josh. Sally told Josh for lack of a better explanation for he level of coordination having been in coma for so long. Josh smiled at her, as she felt her heart fluster, he was quite a handsome man though looking somewhat unkept, she thought to herself. you don't look like you were in a coma for almost two months, she insisted. this time she was standing before him perplexed, yeah it felt like a much needed sleep, he said seemingly oblivious of the reason for her amazement. When you reach the lawyer, please get back to me as soon as possible. This was the tell-off she didn't want but needed. Okay Sally responded as she left his room, memories of his parents and the day of their murder kept flooding his mind. but much to his surprise, he couldn't remember much else, other memories seemed like a toddler memories, his place of schooling, his old friends, his house address, the all seemed very scetchy, he wondered within himself why he wasn't remembering things at a whim, there were not all so far memories. What has happened to me? he thought to himself and it was at this point he realized that he couldn't lift much of his left hand and leg without a strange difficulty.
It finally became clear to him that he must have really been through it all during his while in coma. Josh. I have the called the number you asked, and he was so happy to hear about you, he will be here soon. Sally told Josh as he returned, Good to hear, he responded in a monotone. Also who is paying my tab, Josh asked Sally, oh is Jacob, she responded in a matter of factly way, he has been the one paying for everything. He comes here every Tuesday and Thursday, he is a very good guy, and he loves you.Sally said as she come closer to the side of his bed. She liked what she saw in him. he was a man who seemed in control of himself.
I can remember my past but with some form of work, why is that? Josh asked. You will be fine, you suffered from a very traumatic experience so your body is trying to help your brain heal, In order to do that, it has shut out some information for the purpose. You will heal and everything will return back to you on time. Also my left hand and leg feels very heavy, Josh asked for information again, and Sally came much closer to him, as he could sense her skin and perfume, it felt so alluring being around a woman again, but for some reason, he felt no sensation in him. just that ice cold stability.
She opened the hospital fleece and asked Josh lift up your hand and leg at the same time, as she looked intently at his body, can you feel anything? she asked, Yeah, only slightly! Josh responded, and he moved his feet and legs with some discomfort. Well you will be okay, you had a little stroke there. but with just a tiny little physio, you will be up and running in no time. Joshua chuckled, and Sally laughed,. Thank you Sally, Joshua said in more of cautious way than being actually heart felt. You are welcome. Sally quickly responded.
as Sally was leaving jay walked in. Josh you are awake! he screamed and he almost tripped speeding towards him, Josh couldn't really make out who Jay was to him, he knew Jay. but Jay at this point felt like someone he might have met in some silly boys club, or even as a classmate in some school or something, but he had to pretend as much as he could, he couldn't let the dude notice that he was mentally incapable of some sorts, he didn't want a pity party of any kind.
Josh didn't even remember Jay's surname, but for some reason, he just knew that he had a nick name "namy- Jay". but not much else. Josh needed to look as intact as possible so he didn't talk much, as Jay rattled a whole world of happenings to him, how he thought Josh wasn't going to make it, how Josh should take his predicament like a man and move on into greater heights or whatever he meant and all sorts of motivational piece meal. All of that felt funny to him because he had nothing in mind except to exert the maximum damage to those who hurt him, he knew nothing else, he felt nothing else, he even wanted to die, but this was more important.
His parent's faces all bloodied, their brains being blown off was all the memories that were very clear and potent in his mind and he was sure that those involved with it not only they pay with their own lives, they will pay with that their families, he was going to put them to such pain. He ruminated in his mind.
I heard that you are the one picking up the tap, thanks namy Jay, Josh said as he thanked Jay. Who would I allow to do it anyways? you are my buddy, my best friend. more like my brother, not like one of those my silly natural brothers who don't give a rats ass about me. You know me and you understand me, and besides, your father's brother has taken over most of the dad's assets and has written you off as dead. Jay responded as he looked away not wanting to see Josh's reaction to the news. Which of my uncles are you talking about? Actually, Josh couldn't even remember who the were anymore, or how many they were, it all felt so distant, like it's was a story that belonged to another. What do you mean which of your uncles? don't you recall you have just one uncle Mr Ika Odunze.
He and you pops were pretty close, so I don't know why he acted that way at your Parent's demise, He shocked me. He also had your Parents buried. Jay continued to explain. The first signs of feeling flashed across Joshua's face. Who asked him to bury my parents? Joshua asked in a cold calculated yet menacing tone. Well he said he had to, he said they were not going to wait for you, you know you had being in this sleep for almost two months, so I believe he and his ferocious wife, that silly woman Sandra thought you were already dead, but just hadn't crossed over yet. Jay reported. I see ! Josh said, I want to go home, Joshua responded. didn't you understand anything I had to say? Your home is gone, it has been sold by your uncle. Jay explained further. Still I want out of here. Josh shouted in response. fearing that he had unsettled Josh, he knew he had to calm him down somehow, before he gets help, you are still recouping, you should rest for now, I shouldn't have let you in on to much, you were already fragile as it is, I am sorry about this. Jay said as he stood and quickly stepped out to call Sally,
Ika, you dare bury my parents while I m still alive, you will taste my anger first. you and your keep...
