Chapter 7 - Century Ball

For a long time since she awoken from the half a decade slumber, Blair finally slept with no obstruction, it was a peaceful night and she'd forgotten all her problems if she hadn't wake up from the blaring noises of people moving about.

Blair groaned, sitting up, "the fuck's going on?"

A knock interrupts and Cara steps into the room wearing her usual warm smile.

"Morning angel!"

She handed over a cup of sizzling coffee to Blair.

Blair accepted the cup with a smile and took a sip, "Hmm" she moaned contentedly, "strong!"

"I like everything strong!" Cara winked.

"So, what's the fuss all about?" Blair asked sticking her neck up to take a peek

"Oh you mean why this place is so noisy? We're preparing for the ball!" Cara responded.

Intrigued, Blair corrected her posture and leaned, "a ball? What ball?"

"The century ball of course!" Cara said, shooting Blair a wink.

Blair paused to think, "The century ball? What's that?"

Cara's mouth drops open, "are you kidding me? You don't know about the century ball?"

Blair shook her head.

Cara scoffs in disbelief, "well, that is very surprising."

She settle down on the bed and turn to face Blair, "the century ball is a celebration of our freedom. It is the day the supernatural finally stepped out of the shadows in their own skin and fought for their place in this vast world. A century ball happens every decade, and this time, Damien is hosting!"

Her face beams with excitement, "there is music, food, peaceful interaction, subtle flirting between creatures, and everything is just so...."

She closed her eyes and inhaled deeply, then exhaled sharply, "just so magical."

She laughs haltingly, and then the smile on her face was washed down with sorrow, "John was here last century ball, he made it so fun... Such a shame!"

After a brief dead silence, Cara continued in her normal cheery tone, "one thing I love about this ball is the costume, we get to dress up and show off our beauty."

She sharply stands and struck a killer pose, "and do I dare say... i am the most pretty siren you could ever meet!"

Blair couldn't help laugh, "yep, I agree!"

Cara reached for Blair's hand and pulled her up, "we need to get you glam'd up"

Giggling excitedly, Cara drags Blair with her to a cloth store. The owner welcomed them warmly and ushered them to their seat.

"I want you to make her pretty, I know she naturally is captivating, but I want her to steal the spotlight tonight. I shall leave you two and I hope you will be done by the time I return!" Cara instructed, gave Blair a gentle pat on the cheek and left.

"Alright, let's begin!" The stylist said, bringing out her brushes and cosmetics.

Blair enjoyed her service, she was careful and gentle. She answered every Blair's question with a smile and laughed to her silly comments. She'd compliment Blair's skin, eyes, lips, and hair every other minute and would say how amazing she feels beautifying her.

They keep going and before they realized it, five hours had already flew by. The sun have set and Blair is finally ready.

When Cara arrived to pick her up, her eyes widen in shock, "Holy!... Wow, you look amazing!"

Blair requested the stylist to do her a smokey look, and her hair to be tied in a bun like she used to dress back when she had her powers.

She selected a bold black vintage gown. It is flay with a low décolletage and exposed arms - it fits Blair perfectly.

Blair blushed, red lips lifting to a warm smile, "thank you!"

They headed back to the mansion. When they arrived, the first floor is stack full of people. Creatures of different race and blood are gathered together. The men are dressed in expensive suits and the women are in silk gowns. A soft jazz music plays in the background.

Cara wore a strapless aqua blue gown with a long slit that reaches her thigh. She lets her hair down unlike her usual ponytail.

"That is more like it!" She smiled, eyes sweeping across the room.

A group of attractive siren women approached them.

One of them - a pale skinned slender lady speaks in a proud entitled tone, "Cara Devani, I see you are still around!"

Cara scoffs, "I'm still well and alive as you can see."

"Hmm" the siren chuckled. "Do you realize the beings you associate yourself with are not up to your status? A demon, werewolf, and now..."

Her eyes shifted to Blair, the look of revolt loomed down her face, "a human?"

Frustrated, Cara hissed, "who I associate myself with is none of your concern."

She started losing her cool and had to pause to relax, "I cannot ruin such a memorable night arguing with you. But please, do enjoy the party... and leave after!"

Shooting them a sardonic smile, Cara takes Blair's hand and they walked away while the sirens watched with jealousy.

A waiter passed by them with a tray of champagne flutes filled with wine, Cara takes one of the glasses and downed the wine in a single go.

She groaned exaggeratedly, "they just had to ruin my day."

"Are you okay?" Blair asked worriedly.

"As you can see, my people detest me for marrying a lycan and choosing my own path. This is my life, I bet they relished in joy and partied when I lost john."

She sniffed clutching onto the wedding ring she wore around her neck, "I miss him, I really do!"

"Excuse me!" Tearfully, Cara leave.

Damien had just finished conversing with a group of elves, on his way to the other side of the room, he saw Blair looking like a dazzling diamond and didn't realize it when he halted on his tracks.

Her back was facing him - that sight took him back to five years ago when he first met the evil masked witch.

He could never forget how she looked from behind. Her hair was tied in a bun and she was in a black gown - just like Blair is now.

All of a sudden, he approached Blair, grabbed her arm, and dragged her with him to his bedroom.

Closing the door behind, Damien pushed Blair against the wall. She stared back at him baffled and questionably.

"How long do you think you could fool me? I'm not that stupid!"

Damien sneered and reached for her dress about to rip it open when Blair grabbed his hand defensively,

"What do you think you are doing right now!?" She yelled.

"You are her? The evil masked witch!" He shouts her down, "how far were you going to take this huh?"

Blair was taken aback by his question but managed to keep a neutral expression.

"You think I'm the so called evil masked witch?" She scoffed in disbelief.

"Fine, what do you want to know?" Blair questioned frustratedly.

"I once stabbed you, the wound heals but the scar always remain. Show me your chest, if you want me to believe you are not her!" He responded face red with anger.

As tension fully rises between them - thickening the air - Blair nodded,

"Fine!"

Without wasting another second, Blair tore her dress, revealing her left chest,

"So? Do you still think I'm her?"

There was no scar on her chest, that shocked Damien.

Blair felt a strong sense of satisfaction when his brows lifts - clearly shocked and embarrassed by his own action.

Confused, Damien took a step back and scoffed, "it can't be!"

He shook his head in disbelief, "your eyes, your body, everything about you reminds me of her... So how can this be? How can you not be her?"

He sharply look up at Blair, "who exactly are you?"

Smiling, Blair closed the distance between them.

She leaned towards Damien, trailing a lazy finger seductively up his chest, and bringing her lips to his ear, then she whispered,

"I am whoever you want me to be Damien!"
