Chapter 84: New Equipment - Part 3
As we moved outside the capital, we immediately encountered monsters and prepared for battle.
Goblins, huh? It's a bit of an incomplete victory if we both fight them together.
"Chloe, go ahead and fight first. I'll take on the next monster we find."
"Sure! Thank you, Jin-kun!"
Chloe, who had been holding back, joyfully said so and swiftly attacked the goblin.
During this time, Chloe didn't seem to have undergone any special swordsmanship training, but she easily defeated the monster with her new weapon.
...Wait, is it just me, or has she become better at sword fighting than me, who has only trained in swordsmanship?
"Jin-kun, this sword is amazing! It feels so incredible in many ways!"
After the battle, Chloe, filled with excitement, lifted her sword and exclaimed.
We then continued to search for monsters and finally found a group of three after a few minutes.
"Well, this time I'll take the lead."
I said, putting my sword in its sheath and readying myself with the one-handed sword.
Yeah, at this point, I can tell the difference from my previous sword.
I felt that the sword was even lighter than the one I used earlier.
"—!"
"Wait a moment, give me a little more time. I'm checking the grip of the sword right now."
The monster in front of me seemed irritated by my actions, as it attacked me while I was raising and examining the sword.
However, the movements of the monsters around here were slow, so I easily dodged to the side. At the same time, I swung the sword with force, hitting the monster's head directly and killing it instantly.
"...I didn't put much effort into it, but I got it in one shot. Truly, it's Reza's weapon."
I commented while changing the weapon back into a sword.
The sword felt even lighter than the one I used earlier, and with a few swings, I could feel how much smoother its movements were. I found this one easier to use.
"Next, let's try using this sword as if we were in our usual training."
After the accidental kill earlier, I properly held the sword and attacked the monster.
The monster couldn't even react to my approach and was beheaded in an instant.
As for the third monster, it seemed its two companions had been defeated, so it fled from the scene.
"Hey, wait up!"
I said as I lightly infused the sword with magic, sending a slash from the blade that cleanly cut off the monster's head.
"...This sword is incredible."
I was amazed at my ability to produce what I often saw in anime as a "flying slash" with just a little magic flow through the sword, something I had never expected to happen.
"Jin-kun! What was that last move? Did you use magic?"
"No, I don't think it was magic... I just infused a bit of magic into the sword, but I didn't use magic itself. I think there's something special about this sword."
I explained this to Chloe, who was surprised.
Honestly, I underestimated Reza's skills. I never expected her to create such a powerful weapon.
"Indeed. If something this good is made, the nobles will definitely want it."
Reza has received requests from many nobles to make weapons and armor for them. However, she has decided to only craft for those she personally approves of and ignores all others.
"Even if we forced her to make this weapon, I don't think an amateur could handle it due to its exceptional performance."
"I agree. Both you and I have decent swordsmanship skills, so we can manage it even though we just received it. But I think someone unfamiliar with handling weapons would have a hard time even swinging it."
Chloe seemed to share my thoughts and smiled as she looked at her own sword.
After confirming the performance of our new weapons, we returned to the castle and immediately decided to start training with them.
"Oh, is that Jin's new weapon? It has a peculiar shape."
While training with the sword, I was approached by Andor, who was taking a break.
"It seems to be a type of weapon called a sword. It can only deliver attacks with one blade."
"Ah, I see. It's quite a unique weapon. Did you get it made at Gafka's workshop?"
"Yes, it's an excellent weapon. Would you like to try it?"
I said so and handed the sword to Andor. He was surprised by its lightness when he held it.
"Hmm, I don't think this shape suits me. I feel like the small blade might break. I still prefer the greatsword."
"Well, Andor-san has been using a greatsword for a long time. In my case, I've only started using a sword seriously in the past few months, so I don't feel that out of place with it. Besides, it's a perfect fit for my swordsmanship."
"Is that so? That's good then. Finding a weapon that matches your combat style can be quite a challenge... Well, keep up the training."
Andor returned to the soldiers resting and urged them to continue training by saying, "Come on, wake up! Jin has been working hard all this time."
While listening to the voices of Andor and the others training, I continued my training with the sword.
