Chapter 48: Report Meeting - Part 1
Several days had passed since I took on the escort mission, and I had become quite accustomed to the job.
At the beginning, I felt a bit nervous being in the setting of the game called "Academy." However, considering the story started three years ago, there were only a few characters I knew, and they didn't seem to have any relevance to the plot, so I could focus on my escort duties without worry.
"Jun-kun, is it true what Fiona-chan said, that you can use both magic and a sword?"
"Yes, that's correct. However, the way I use them is not taught in the academy. I came up with my own methods."
"I see. Jun-kun is not of the age to enter the academy yet, right? But didn't you have a private tutor or something?"
"I did have a tutor in the beginning, but for the past few years, I've been practicing on my own. Princess recognized my abilities and appointed me as her escort."
"Oh, I see. So, you have some fighting skills. I'd love to see it someday."
As Miliana and I engaged in such conversation, the princess, who had been diligently taking notes, lifted her head and stretched, saying, "I'm done." Yesterday, she had been given homework, but it seemed she had forgotten about it. She asked Miliana to lend her the notes, which she copied.
Some things remain the same even in this changed world...
"Fi-chan, that's a favor one for me, okay?"
"...Miliana, you're always forgetting stuff, right? If you say that again, I won't lend it to you next time."
"I'm sorry, Fi-chan! So please lend it to me again in the future!"
Miliana promptly apologized, lowering her head to the princess's words. After spending several days observing the social relationships while being the escort, I noticed that Miliana and Tiana were particularly close to the princess.
While she exchanged some conversation with other students, she hardly ever ate meals together with them.
"You and Miliana-san are really close to the princess."
"Well, she's my cousin. We practically grew up together, so it's more like being family than friends, I guess."
"Is that so?"
"Yes, Miliana's grandmother is my grandfather's sister. So, we used to play together a lot when we were little."
So that character was hidden in the game... But well, in this game, it's plausible.
Each character's background is quite rich, causing instances like "Eh, this character won't appear?" to happen.
Some characters only appear by name in the reference material and never show up in the main game.
"Indeed. So, does that mean you were also nearby when the princess caused that incident?"
"Rather than saying I was nearby, Millia was on the same side, you know."
"Haha, yes, she certainly felt remorse after accidentally breaking the castle wall."
I couldn't help but internally comment on Milliana's involvement in that incident.
After that, the teacher came in, and the conversation ended. Milliana returned to her seat.
As the day's classes concluded, we returned home to the castle.
"Well then, Your Highness. Since tomorrow is a holiday at the academy, we won't need guards, right?"
"Yes, that's right. Tomorrow and the day after are days off, so you, Jin-san, and the others can take a break. Do you have any plans?"
"I thought about going to the guild to report the current situation after a week has passed. Also, they asked me to share the atmosphere of our work."
Before I started living in the castle, Fine-san had asked me to report back after a week.
"Chloe will also accompany you for the report, so she won't be in the castle much tomorrow."
"I see. Understood. Should I prepare a carriage for you?"
"No, that won't be necessary. Both Chloe and I are skilled at stealth, so we'll go to the guild incognito. Using the royal carriage might cause a commotion."
Politely declining the princess's suggestion, I got off the carriage as we arrived at the castle, and today's work was done.
Since I had to go to the guild tomorrow, I cut the training a bit short and took an early shower. I decided to spend time in my room until dinner.
While meditating in my room, I heard a knock on the door and Chloe's voice saying, "Jin-kun, are you there?"
"Yeah, come in. It's fine."
With that, Chloe opened the door and entered the room.
"Sorry to bother you during your free time."
"It's okay. What do you need?"
"Well, on our way back from the guild tomorrow, can we stop by Cynthia's shop?"
"Sure, no problem. Is there something you need? Maybe it's something I already have stored with my inventory skill?"
"Oh, no. I just want to buy some training equipment. I remembered seeing something good at her shop the last time I went."
With that, Chloe mentioned that we had decided to visit Cynthia's store to get the training equipment I needed.
