Idle Talk - Miracle (Alexis's Perspective)
I still doubt whether the scene I saw earlier was a dream or not.
My daughter, Martine, fell ill around winter, and it was said that she wouldn't last for many more days.
When I actually went to her room, Martine was so weak that her life seemed to be extinguished at any moment.
However, when Lord Leon used a recovery spell and enveloped Martine's entire body in gentle light, her complexion gradually improved.
A few minutes later, when the light disappeared, her breathing stabilized, and the obvious signs of weakness vanished. Although she remained thin, one could say that her vitality had returned.
After resting for a while, she recovered to the point where she could have a conversation with us, full of energy. It truly felt like a miracle.
I was skeptical when Richard told me about it. However, if there was no other way for her to be saved, I decided to rely on Lord Leon as a last resort.
I can't thank Lord Leon enough. With such power, he would undoubtedly become a cause of conflict. I will definitely be of help to Lord Leon.
That day, I hadn't been able to sleep much recently, but I could finally sleep soundly, relieved that Martine had been saved.
I woke up in the early morning, but the news of Martine's recovery had not yet reached me. It's about time I pretend not to know as well.
I pretended to be asleep on the bed, and after a while, the outside became bustling, and my attendant quickly approached the bed.
"Your Majesty, it is still a little early, but there is an urgent message."
"What is it?"
"Martine-sama's illness has been cured!"
"What!?"
I jumped up in a hurry. Is it not suspicious...?
"Is that true!?"
"Yes. Should I immediately prepare your attire so that you can go to Martine-sama's room?"
"Yes, please do it right away."
"I understand."
It seems like I haven't been caught, thank goodness. Maybe I have better acting skills than I thought.
With the help of my attendant, I quickly changed clothes and went to Martine's room, where my wife and the first queen, Elizabeth, and Martine's twin brother and the first prince, Stefan, had just arrived.
"Elizabeth, Stefan, is it true that Martine has recovered!?"
"I also heard about it just now, so I don't know for certain."
"Father, you will understand once you meet Martine."
"That's true."
We had such a conversation and entered Martine's room, where Martine was sitting up in bed.
After a night's sleep, her complexion had improved even more. I'm truly relieved.
"Martine, is it true that you're feeling better?"
"Father, Mother, Brother. When I woke up this morning, my body felt relieved. I'm already fine."
"Martine! Is it true!? You're not in pain anymore?"
"Yes, Mother."
"Martine... I'm glad..."
Elisabeth said that and burst into tears. Stefan also seemed to be teary-eyed.
I'm really glad... If it weren't for Leon-sama, it would have been tears of sadness for losing Martine. It's thanks to Leon-sama that I was able to turn them into tears of joy...
As I thought that and relaxed with a sense of relief, Elisabeth stared at me intently. She had a face that seemed to be suspecting something.
I wonder what it is? Did I do something strange or unusual? I thought I played my role well.
"Alexis, we have something to talk about later. Let's have breakfast together. Stefan, you too."
"Understood, Mother."
"That's fine, but... What is it about?"
"We'll discuss it during breakfast."
After Elisabeth said that, she returned her gaze to Martine and continued talking about various things.
Could it be that yesterday's incident has been exposed...?
Well, it's fine. I was planning to tell Elisabeth and Stefan about Leon-sama eventually, so it's okay. But it's somewhat unsatisfying that I was found out through my own behavior.
Even though I am the king of a country, I can keep my thoughts to myself and keep secrets, no matter what I feel inside...
After talking with Martine for a while, the three of us left the room.
As we left the room, Elisabeth, who had been smiling happily just a moment ago, suddenly had a questioning expression on her face.
"Shall we have breakfast in your room then?"
"...Ah, yes, let's go to my room."
Internally, I was a little flustered, but I made sure not to show it on my face and invited them to the room with a cheerful smile.
Once we arrived in the room, I immediately instructed the servants to prepare breakfast. The atmosphere felt awkward, and I wanted to explain as soon as possible.
Elisabeth and Stefan were tight-lipped, and since they might have to cooperate with me in the future, it would be better to talk things out. Especially since Martine will be involved with Leon-sama from now on.
After the preparations for breakfast were complete, I dismissed all the servants. Information about Leon-sama is confidential. It's better to have as few people as possible who know about it.
"Shall we have breakfast first?"
"Yes, and after that, you will answer my questions."
"I understand."
After finishing the slightly awkward breakfast, we went straight to the main topic.
"So, what is it that Elizabeth wants to ask me?"
"It's about Martine. I heard from the pharmacist that Martine doesn't have much time left. It's impossible for someone to recover so suddenly."
"Why are you asking me about it?"
"You visited Richard-sama and Martine's room last night, didn't you? The timing of Martine's recovery the next day is too good. And your behavior in Martine's room was different, as if you were hiding something. You may fool others, but you can't fool me. Now, please explain to me what you know."
Elizabeth is truly amazing. She noticed even though my attitude was perfect just now.
"I'll tell you everything... The reason Martine got better is because we asked a healing mage who can cure illnesses. The boy named Leon, who came with Richard as his attendant yesterday, is that mage."
"No way! Is there really someone who can use such magic?"
Ah, it's a long story if I explain... But from the moment Elizabeth and Stefan learned about Leon-sama's existence, I told them everything without hiding anything.
"I can't believe it... All attributes... Leon-sama is an Apostle, isn't he?"
"No, he himself denies being an Apostle. Richard and I believe that Leon-sama is most likely an Apostle, but since he denies it, it's better not to say it too much. There may be a reason why he can't reveal his identity."
"That's true. I'll be careful too."
Elizabeth nodded deeply. I'm glad she understood.
"Oh, and Leon-sama's safety is in danger if his abilities are known. It's very risky. Keep his matters to yourself."
"I understand."
"Stefan, you mustn't tell anyone either."
"I understand. But Leon-sama is going to be my classmate, right?"
"Yes, that's right."
"In that case, can I tell Leon-sama that I know about his abilities since I'll be interacting with him a lot?"
Certainly, that's true. There's no need to hide it from the person themselves.
"I don't mind. I'll let Leon-sama know when he comes to the palace next time."
"Thank you very much."
"So, is this enough about Leon-sama?"
"No, I also want to express my gratitude to Leon-sama. He saved Martine's life. Can you arrange a meeting with Leon-sama?"
"I also want to meet him!"
Hmm, when I come to teach Martine magic next time, I should make some time for a meeting.
"Well then, let's arrange a meeting after the lesson when Leon-sama comes to teach Martine magic next time."
"Thank you! I should prepare some kind of gift to express my gratitude to Leon-sama. Do you know what he likes?"
"No, I don't know. Maybe something safe like jewelry or clothes?"
"That sounds good too. I'll prepare something suitable for Leon-sama."
Elizabeth seems really excited... She might give something amazing, but after all, it's just a small token compared to saving Martine's life.
"I'll contact you once the day Leon-sama is coming is decided."
"I'm looking forward to it."
"I'm looking forward to it too."
It's good that my family's smiles are protected. I really have to express my gratitude to Leon-sama.
