Chapter 16 - V2C6

Volume 2, Chapter 6: Battle in the Underground Waterway

I obtained the Empress's permission and asked the guards on our side for help. I instructed them to withdraw all the Empress's guards in the underground waterway and block all the exits leading outside.

"I'm sorry. I have a really bad feeling about this," Princess Miyabi, who was beside me, looked at me.

"There's no way you can do something like this! Why did you agree to it?" Lieutenant Kunihiro, who was useless except for vomiting, protested.

"Well, sorry, but I'm pretty sure we can do it. It's always been like that until now."

Princess Miyabi answered with conviction.

"I think so too. I'm just wondering what the method will be."

Colonel Yoshiaki seemed worried.

"I have a really bad feeling about the promise not to enter the underground waterway under any circumstances, to give us one day, and not to investigate even if the bodies disappear."

"Could it be that you'll block the exits and blow them up or something?" Lieutenant Kunihiro came up with an idea, his face showing realization.

"You fool, that would cause damage to the city."

This guy is truly incompetent.

At that moment, the guards from earlier came running and informed us that all our allies had withdrawn from the underground waterway and that the exits from the waterway had been sealed.

"Understood. Please make sure to keep the promises we made earlier, such as not entering the underground waterway under any circumstances," I emphasized again.

"Understood," the guards replied obediently.

"Then, let us begin as well. Aoi, I'm counting on you," I said.

"Yes. I will start now," Aoi replied.

"Ahhhhh, I figured it out! I know what you're going to do!" Princess Miyabi held her head in her hands.

"Is that okay? Is it really okay?" Princess Miyabi approached me.

"It seems that their numbers have increased recently, and they are having trouble finding enough food," I replied, and Colonel Yoshiaki held his head.

"I finally get it!"

Colonel Yoshiaki also scratched his head.

"We can defeat the enemy. They can have a meal. It's a win-win situation."

I gleamed with excitement.

"What? What's going on?"

There's still an idiot who doesn't understand.

The Murakami brothers also tilted their heads in confusion.

Well, it might be something that exceptional warriors can't comprehend.

Yeah.

Warriors can't help it.

"We have entered the waterway now. Everyone seems to be participating with great joy, and a tremendous number is heading this way. With this many, it might be over in a few hours."

Aoi informed me.

"That's good."

"What is it? What are you doing?"

Colonel Gero still seems to have no clue.

I seriously want to rename Colonel Kunihito to Colonel Gero somewhere.

"Huh? You still don't get it?"

Princess Miyabi was exasperated.

"The other day, Colonel gave salted meat to them, and they became attached, remember?"

Colonel Yoshiaki answered as if saying, "Phew."

"Huh? Sea serpents? Huh?"

"Yes. Currently, hundreds of them are entering the underground waterway from the sea side. They are enthusiastically devouring everything in their path."

Aoi replied.

"What? What are you thinking? Are you sane?"

Colonel Kunihito was being annoying.

It's a bit shocking that the Murakami brothers are somewhat taken aback.

"It's not a sane act, you know."

Colonel Kunihito is disgusted.

"Well, you know, in the natural world, it's survival of the fittest. Even humans eat meat. Sea serpents also have to live somehow, you know."

"What? Is that all?"

Princess Miyabi made a face of disbelief.

"Listen, don't you think it's presumptuous for humans to talk about what happens in the natural world?"

I made a pensive and serious face.

The Murakami brothers, who were a little taken aback, also nodded in agreement.

"Indeed, Lord Yuuki, you truly value nature."

Lieutenant Murasaki was moved.

"No, isn't that a monster?"

Colonel Kunihito complained.

Should we let him enter the underground waterway too?

"Oh, it seems they've finished eating."

Aoi looked at us with a smiling face.

"Hooray!"

Everyone was surprised.

"If there's another story like this, please share it with us."

Aoi smiled brightly.

"Understood. Please convey my regards."

I returned the smile.

"With this, the world's savior..."

Princess Miyabi muttered and made an amazed expression.
