"You know what, John? The fight starts in 5 minutes. We're in the casino, and it's your birthday. Let's make a bet. I'll bet 20 quid on Ragnarok to one-shot your little gamer girl, and you put down 20 quid and back her," Tommy proposed, laughing.
Amidst their laughter, they headed over to the betting interface. Tommy confidently placed £20 on Ragnarok to defeat Eve at 3-1 odds. John proceeded to place his bet on Eve, turning around to face Tommy.
But Tommy's face turned white as a ghost. "John, what have you done?" he stammered, confusion etched on John's face.
"What? £20 on Eve. You getting scared I'm gonna win?" John asked, roaring out in laughter.
"John, that... that was not 20 quid," Tommy finally managed to say. John looked down at his betting slip. It read £20000, with odds of 7000-1. Reality washed through the drunken fog in John's head as he realized what had happened.
"Fuck, Tommy! What have I done? That was everything I have," John exclaimed, feeling a surge of panic and regret. He sat down, ready to watch the fight that would be his downfall, as the announcers introduced the two fighters.
