Chapter 1 - E0 - Prologue

August 17th, 2023:

"Roooooar!"

The ground shook from the beast's cry. It towered over the church. Straight from Hell. 3 razor-sharp claws on each limb; wrong move, and it would slice me in two.

Armoured skin; scales of black bricks. Impenetrable. And an ungodly, draconic face. Could swallow a truck whole.

"How the hell do I stop this?!" I trembled.

"Roaaaaaaar!"

I hit my chest:「Thud」

"Get yourself together Ryan!"

While sweeping my straight, green hair out of my face - steeling myself - I scanned for an opening.

"It's up to you to stop this. Can't let it cause any damage!"

The screams of the fleeing civilians were deafening. They almost blocked out the alarms of the smashed cars and broken buildings.

"Rooooar!"

It's head was frantic, like a flail, smashing into the offices on either side of the street. Glass shattering. Brick crumbling.

Then it decided to turn.

「Crash」

It's front legs crashed into the ground behind it, making me lose my balance. As it twisted its body to retreat, the world slowed.

"The tail! It's gonna crush those people!"

"Aaaaargh! HEEEELP!"

「Crackle」

The lightning filled my veins as I became a blur.

「Pa-Pow」

The burst of my energy errupted in a thunderclap. As a thread of green lightning, I shot towards the tail, blocking its path.

「Pow」

"Ruuuuun!" I cried out.

My arms shattered from the force of its blow. But I stayed strong. I don't know how, but I stayed strong, until the family escaped. That fear in the little kid's eyes made me unable to give up, not until everyone was safe.

"Aaaargh, britz! I need a weapon," escaped my voice between shallow breaths, "another blow and I'm dead, man."

Luckily, it was clear again. I had a chance to retreat, and I took it. Spotting a length of rebar on my way.

「Crackle」

A streak of green lightning whipped out, and pulled it into my hand, as I crouched down, ready to strike again.

「Thud」,「thud」,「thud」

The beast kept fleeing. Clumsily. Its massive body tumbling into the warehouses, folding street lights in half, tearing up the street.

"Time to dance, you son of a britz!" I yelled breathlessly.

「Thunderclap」

"Let's start with a leg!"

「Pow」,「 pow」,「 pow」

Each blow rippled with green electricity - strong enough to down an elephant - but no, not even a scratch. "Polx!"

"Rooooooar!" The beast snarled, as it launched its twin, iron horns at me.

「Thud」

"Whooh. At least you're too slow to hit me," I chuckled, while I tried to catch my breath.

"How 'bout we crank it up a notch?"

「Crackle」, 「thunderclap」

The lightning surrounded my feet as I shot into the air. Charging the beam with energy, I bashed its obsidian skull, filling my vision with sparks. With a glorious 「crack」, the beast's armour shattered, between its horns, making it writhe in pain, "roooooooooar!"

Sadly, the impact was too strong; the metal snapped in half and went flying into the air. No longer trusting the weapon, I dropped it, scanned the area for any civilians, and regained my breath for one final blow.

"Alright. Huff. Let's end this..."

「Thunderclap」

Releasing all of my energy into my legs, I rushed up a 3 storey that had collapsed into my ramp. As I launched towards the lonely full moon, my world was silent. I became a streak in the sky - like the start of a firework, just before the explosion. When my body slowed, and I could see it again, it was an ant. And I was gonna crush it like one.

「Crackle」

Lightning whipped out of my hands, grasping its two horns, turning me into a catapult. Determined to end this, I relaxed my mind: expelling my fears, focusing only on its weakened area.

"Whooooh," I exhaled calmly.

「Thunderclap」

「...」

「Boooooooooom」

「...」

In an eerie silence, my eyes opened to see us in a crater - at least 100 metres long. Rubble from nearby buildings pinned it down but, judging from the wounds across its body, they weren't necessary.

"Aaaaargh!"

As I tried to rise, my bones felt like dust. Every movement made me want to fall. And I did: again, and again. But my job wasn't done yet.

I climbed up to its face, its shiny black scales now matte from soot, shifting slowly with each haggered, painful breath.

"Huff. You almost look as bad as me mate. Cough."

Like a dagger, the pain pierced my chest making me groan and wince. In agony, I raised my hand to his nose and placed it on the shining white circle spinning above it.

"Now, let's bring you home, Alix."

I focused my energy to reverse the spell, dissolving it in a quiet hum. His body cracked and contorted, shrinking back to the 18 year-old's battered and bruised body, as I collapsed onto his chest.

「Thud」

"Ryan? Cough," he cried out between groans and terrrified breaths, "Oh god, what did I do? I wasn't in control. I-I need to fix this. I-"

"Shuuush. No one was hurt, I made sure. Just sleep brother. We'll fix it when we wake up. We'll fix it... Whooh"
