I pulled back a little, and what I saw made me tear up. Caio was staring at me with eyes that were full of affection and concern. That was how he looked at me when I was 20. Did that mean… "Do you… believe me now?" I tentatively asked him.

Caio didn't answer, but instead pulled her closer in a tight hug. What Lucrezia was claiming seemed nothing less than absurd and impossible. At the back of his mind it appalled him that he was throwing caution and logic out of the proverbial window and instead choosing to trust the words of the woman who had been intending to kill 20.

But when he recalled what she had written on that sheet of paper, he couldn't help himself – he felt compelled to take her word for it. Those moments, those instances. They belonged to 20 and him, and no one else knew about them. But the fact that she did, meant that he had to take this risk – 20 was definitely worth it.
