I clutched my skirt and stared at Caio, but I couldn't find the words to answer him. What could I possibly say – that I came because I wanted to gather more proof behind my poisoning? But given that I was Princess Lucrezia now and not 20, it would only have the opposite effect – Caio would logically think that I was here to talk to the man I had given orders to.
"I asked you a question, Your Highness," Caio said, his tone sharp. I felt that even if he used an honorific, it was nothing more than forced cordiality on his part, and not because he was really being polite. He was staring at me with contempt clearly written in his golden eyes and my heart constricted. I never thought he'd treat me like an adversary. But then again, I'd never have to face him in Lucrezia's body either.
