Chapter 259 - Race Starts!

"There isnt much to do is there?" Stocking couldn't help but say as she was relaxing on the bed while reading some manga I had gotten from the system shop.

"I told you there wasn't much going on in this place, I mean there's going to be a bunch of fights but there's a lot of downtime that isn't shown in the manga that's just traveling and that's it." I say as I begin putting on my clothes since there was less than an hour before the race starts.

"I knew that but I thought there would be more excitement you know? I was expecting to see a western style showdown at least once these past two days but nothing like that happened!" She couldn't help but say in frustration to which I just shrugged while getting my boots on.

"Duels are rare to happen in the first place, unless needed most people won't duel each other to settle differences, not only that it's now the late 1900's this is at the tail end of the age of cowboys as we know it, but don't worry, we will see plenty of action on this journey." I mean there's the events of the story obviously and there were probably events that happened during the journey that weren't mentioned in the manga that probably happened as well.

"Now quit complaining, get your shit on and let's head out, we got a race to join." I say before pulling on my duster, fixing my tie, straightening my gloves before putting my hat on top.

She groaned out but she did as I said before getting up and getting ready before we both headed out towards San Diego Beach.

******

9:55 AM, September 25th, 1890, San Diego Beach.

*Whistle* "Man this is really a lot of horses." I couldn't help but as both me and Stocking on top of our horses stood at the starting line with all of the racers on their horses waiting for it all to start.

Most of the racers were using horses though there were a couple outliers, one being an Arabian man who was going to ride a camel for this journey and another in the distance seemed to be a rather rich man trying to use one of the first automobiles in order to complete this race as so long as it wasn't a train, any form of transportation was allowed, especially Sandman who is the only real runner of this race.

"So are we trying to win this race or not?" Stocking asked as I hadn't made it clear to her really what I was doing for the race as a whole except for convincing Gyro to teach me about the Spin in order to perfect my understanding of the Spiral.

As while my Spiral and Anti-Spiral Powers were sealed off for the time being, it doesn't mean I can't use Spiral Techniques it's just as they are now they are extremely weaker as a result.

"Winning the Race isn't really the point, it's everything else between here and there that's the important parts along with me gaining the strength I need for the future, though if we can get those and keep them then that would be helpful as well." I say as the other main point of this race came into play.

The Saints Corpse Parts, if I could get my hands on them then there's a good chance that both me and Fortunate Son will evolve in some way, shape and or form.

*RACERS! GET READY!*

The voice of a man could be heard as we were mere seconds away from the start of the race and then-

*BANG!*

A Gunshot was heard and we all began speeding off towards our destination and the beginning of the first part of the race starting from here on San Diego Beach and ending at the Santa Maria Novella Church.

The first part of the race was a 15,000 meters (9.3miles) section of the race and one of the shortest parts in the entire race.

Soon enough I noticed someone taking the lead and I couldn't help but grin, "There you are, Gyro, I'm going up ahead, keep the pace if you want or not!" I shouted out to Stocking before kicking ShadowRunner into high gear in order to keep up with Gyro who had taken the lead.

"Hmm?" Gyro looked over his shoulder to see an unfamiliar face begin to approach him rapidly, but then he looked to his right in order to see the man known as Mohammad Avdol atop his Camel begin to chase after him and this unknown rider.

I looked behind me as I heard a collision while steering clear of Avdol and his camel to see many horses colliding into each other with Stocking's Whisper ducking and weaving through the collaspe to pull ahead of them and only just behind another familiar face, Johnny Joestar.

Not only that but I saw Diego Brando getting out of that collision same for Hot Pants, Wild Tim, Sandman and the rest weren't far behind.

Though I quickly saw Gyro throw out his Steel Ball and remembering this part I stayed away while Avdol was on Gyro and trying to tip his horse.

And though it looked like Gyros horse was about to fall Avdol made a mistake of going over a small grove and inadvertently running into a group of Cacti, freaking out his camel and causing him to collapse and kick him out of the race.

Gyro was still in the lead but I wasn't that far behind him, but behind me was Diego, and he was gaining speed on us both, not that my horse was the issue, but I was controlling his speed and keeping pace between them both until I had to go neck and neck with Gyro.

He looked at me and I looked back, but his eyes got serious when he saw the position of my hands.

My hands had the bridle in an open style with only my thumbs keeping it within the loops, but what he focused on was my hands as they were touching the horse directly only for a spiral like pattern to be constantly moving through its shoulders and going down the length of his entire leg.

I just smirk at him, "Surprised? I was a bit as well when I saw you use your Spin on those Steel Balls earlier to lure him into those Cacti." I said calling out the use of his own personal powers to his advantage.

"…. Nyo ho, seems this race will be more interesting than expected." He said flashing his golden grilled teeth at me.

"Though I'd love to keep chatting it seems we have company." I say as both of us see Diego hot on our heels and gaining on us every ten or so seconds.

Soon enough he was already at pace with us, confusing Gyro but only making me squint my eyes, "Looks like someone figured out your horses habit."

"Oh? I guess the only bumpkin here is him then, doesn't matter though as I will be winning this race." He said before pulling ahead of us by a neck.

Unfortunately for him he decided to underestimate both a Spiral and a Spin User at the same time, something he will have to pay for dearly.
