Chereads / MY SURVIVAL SYSTEM / Chapter 72 - SEVENTY-TWO

Chapter 72 - SEVENTY-TWO

All it took was an eye of Solace to change the battle outlook for us in moments. There was hope since it looked like Skye was ready to join in the battle.

Was she prepared to confront dangerous creatures with the limited training she had from Hassan? That didn't matter ... What mattered was that all hands were on deck, especially given the nature of this particular quest.

At the same time, Hassan was on the verge of being overwhelmed by the many huge serpents approaching him from his sides.

Technically he was like a formidable wall that stood in front of us; if that wall fell then we were doomed.

For some reason, he only could hold three of the serpents immobile.

"Sky!" He yelled as his voice came in quakes that it seemed as though he was being overwhelmed by whatever it was that he was doing. "You can kill these. They can't move"

'Oh!' I thought when I realized what he was doing. He was making it easier for Skye to clear the quest.

But that wasn't the time to be worried for someone else when his life was clearly in danger.

" Hassan!" I screamed as the Snakes closed in on him from his sides.

At that point, I felt a new surge of energy quickly rising from deep within my chest and the next words that came out of my mouth were not just sent out as ordinary sound waves but something more; something that could move the countless massive snakes back a long distance. "Watch out!"

Hassan could've gotten caught in the strange burst of intangible wind if he hadn't let go of his hold on the three snakes and quickly did a backflip and rolled to the side.

Did he sense the strange burst of immaterial wind? Or was he just fleeing from the serpents that had almost gotten to him?

Most importantly, what was this strange thing that I could do?

Pushing the creatures back could only give Hassan some time to evade their attacks... But soon enough they were back to where they were before and seemed to be even more in number.

Hassan ran towards the front row of the creatures as they lunged the front parts of their slimy and massive bodies at him while baring their vicious fangs at him.

They all wanted to swallow him at the same time not minding that they could be obstacles to each other.

That was what Hassan seemed to be using in the battle against those massive creatures. He ran under their massive bodies, effectively dodging them for their heads to clash or for them to get tangled up.

Even as I watched the events unfold I couldn't tell how some of the creatures got like that...

As he ran under some of the creatures they lowered that part of the body threatening to crush him under their weight.

He then screamed in our direction "There is no time. You have to complete the quest now! "

Skye had frozen in place after the mystical winds had blown away the creatures earlier.

It wasn't out of fear because there was the eye of solace in action but it looked as though the reluctance was due to her rightful doubt in what she could do in a battle with such massive creatures.

Immediately she mimicked the stance that Hassan normally stood like when he was about to battle it was as if she weighed her chances. She then straightened her back to her usual posture as if she thought the idea of her fighting those massive creatures was foolhardy, especially because they were gaining numbers and Hassan who had immobilized a few of them for her was being overwhelmed.

But then again he provided that opportunity for the second time.

That was when I deeply regretted not having a weapon to fight with and even if I did how would I cut through the thick necks of the massive creatures?

0/2 was the total amount but even that seemed almost impossible for me to do.

Skye dashed towards the first line of creatures and reached towards the body of the nearest one thrusting her frost fire dagger into it's neck.

The cut wasn't complete immediately because she had to thrust in twice to effectively sever the creature's neck but it seemed like she didn't need to completely sever the creature's neck to kill the creature with the Frost fire dagger.

As soon as Skye dug the frost fire dagger into the creature's neck a massive aura of cold energy flowed through it moments later freezing the creature into solid ice that made it look as though it had been stored in ice.

So as soon as it's head was falling to the ground the rest of it's body was frozen.

Hassan was dealing with the creatures that were spawning from the sides.

The creatures that he had trapped struggled to get out of their tangled mess before it was too late but that could not happen because as soon as Skye was done with one massive creature she immediately dug her frost fire dagger into the next and left it there for the dagger to finish its work on its own.

The frost-fire dagger was the perfect tool to own but I didn't wish for her to give it back. From what had happened it was evident that even I too would need to learn the ways of combat just for moments like this when my mind transfer abilities failed.

Moments like this made me realize how useless I really was. If I couldn't use mind transfer to invade the minds of creatures attacking and using them to fight their kind what could I then contribute to the battle?

My other skill was 'telepathic warrior '... The only time I used it was against the psychic creatures when we were outside the forest. And the strange thing I had demonstrated earlier could only give us extra time to evade those creatures and not make me clear the quest.

'Wait' I thought as I watched Sky defeat the entrapped creatures.

I had one ace left to play. The telepathic warrior. It hadn't come to mind since I was so occupied with trying the mind transfer and had low-key thought that it was useless against non-psychic creatures but now I was seeing it in a whole new light.

What if it could be used against non-Psychic creatures?

I focused my attention on the nearest creature that wasn't entrapped by Hassan's earlier trick or wasn't being fallen by Hassan.

It was coming from the far end of the side that we ran out from. It was also smaller and out of reach from Hassan.

We were lucky that these creatures were coming from one direction and not from every direction. If that happened we would be cruelly incapacitated.

Hassan was a formidable foe for the creatures to contend with but even he would get overwhelmed in such a situation especially since he was basically the only one fighting against the countless number of massive creatures.

One thing in common with all these abilities is that you don't really need to have an already-existing knowledge about them.

The organizers of this whole ordeal had somehow put it into us and made it manifest whenever we wanted it to.

So, all you need to do to use your ability is just to seriously want to use it.

I focused my energy on the creature. I had never been on the fighting end of the telepathic thing but still...

What was I expecting? Somehow I already knew that it wouldn't work. These creatures had a high level of psychic barrier that I couldn't breach.

The telepathic warrior's ability was as good as the mind transfer ability; they were both useless.

I watched as Hassan fell one creature after another with little difficulty. It seemed as though the massive size of the creature didn't bother him anymore. It seemed as though he had adjusted to the level of difficulty.

Tears welled up in my eyes. For the umpteenth time, I was helpless. What would happen if I'm unable to clear this quest? Will I be sent to the land of the red?

All these questions ran through my mind as I stood some distance behind Hassan and Skye watching as the duo worked in perfect harmony as Sky cut through the creatures that Hassan had made immobile with his strange ability while he swiftly fought some creatures and made some others immobile.

"Jess! What are you doing ?" It took Hassan moments to realize that I hadn't taken the bait.

Instead of replying to them, I dove into my player's profile. I had to do something about not having a weapon.

I never expected that not being part of a battle would be worrisome. I felt peace and calmness due to the eye of solace but still, the fact that I hadn't done anything to clear the quest gnawed on the back of my mind.

My message box had the number '1200' attached to it and I had an inkling that it was the strange group chat that I was being kept from disclosing to Sky and Hassan.

But there was no time to check it out. The most important thing was to check out my shop for any wieldable weapon.
