"Wow," I said as I struggled to pay attention to the words that Hassan was trying to say. All I knew was that they spoke of greatness.
I had assumed that the rewards we received were linked to the type of creature we defeated, but it appeared that wasn't the case. The psychic microorganism that was responsible for making creatures go mad caused Hassan to gain a soul-bound armor, a life-stealing technique, and twenty puzzles. Eliminating the virus seemed to be much more rewarding than defeating the mad king of ice bears. I began to feel a pang of jealousy and pondered what sort of rewards I might have received if I was the one to deliver that fatal blow to the Loucura virus.
"Can we see it?" Sky said to him.
When he brought out the supposed scroll, only he could see it which didn't make any sense.
"Can you see it?" Sky inquired of me, as Hassan insisted that he held the delicate scroll in his hand.
I started to think that he was messing with us and didn't want us to see what was written in it... But then whenever did he make jests or jokes...
"Wow! That's like extra security " I muttered, acknowledging the entity that Hassan had dispatched. I was the only one who truly comprehended what that entity was, and to be honest, the rewards seemed disproportionate to what one might expect from slaying such a high-tier being.
But then it had fallen from its former rank to the lowest it could possibly be and rendered helpless even if its psychic prowess was still impeccable. If it was slightly at a higher level than a microorganism it might've been impossible to have killed it. That is if it was dead... With that last shriek, it sounded as if it was coming back for revenge or something of that sort.
The soul-bound armor was as magnificent as it sounded. It was a set of intricate ebony-black plates adorned with ethereal, glowing runes. But Hassan could not get to wear it because he was not strong-willed enough.
The rewards were indeed more than impressive.
" Congrats," I said to him, not knowing any other thing to say. He smiled as he sent the armor back into his inventory.
"What are you going to do?" sky asked him moments after the armor materialized out of thin air.
"Wait... Till I am able to use it " Hassan said with the look of determination on his face. I didn't need to look into his mind to know that he meant it and would do it sooner than we expected.
Although he didn't speak much, his actions spoke volumes and compensated for his somewhat awkward demeanor.
Then I remembered that I also had a reward from the last fight and I hadn't bothered to check it. As I went through my profile info to check the inventory my eyes went to the message box floating on one edge of the rectangle. It had the number 70 written on it.
Without a second thought, I went to it. There weren't random names displayed. The group chat wasn't there.
It was just messages. Announcements that I had seen before and those I hadn't seen. Like the message about successfully invading the minds of creatures. They were there but weren't notified like those that had popped up before me.
"Wow," I muttered as I went through my messages and marveled at the feat that I had achieved. I started to wonder what Hassan's messages would be like.
But then I shoved the thought out of my mind. The Eye of Psion was such a tasking item to use and it would be weird to ask him to talk about his messages. Or would it?
I moved on to what I had come for; the eye of solace.
All these eyes that I was being rewarded... I hoped that the eye of solace wouldn't be as painful to use as the eye of Psion.

"What an irony!" I thought, considering that a creature consumed by madness had rewarded me with something associated with peace and calmness.
I needed that but of what use was it... Really...
It wouldn't help in battle... But then if we were calmer than we were that would help us gather our thoughts more, especially Hassan. He seemed calm as he fought but from when I had witnessed when I used the eye of Psion he was troubled and terrified. So, the eye of solace was especially good for someone like him who knew how to hide his feelings so well even though it was eating him on the inside.
"wow," I said as I appreciated the reward for the first time.
"What are we going to do next?" Sky asked.
It seemed as if the water had rejuvenated her.
But what she said was important. We couldn't stay in one place... Eventually, the animals would come back to the forest and we shouldn't be there when they came around. Who knew if the crazy beings in charge would tell us to fight all of them?
Immediately the thought popped up in my head I tried so much not to think of it again before the beings in charge heard it and sent it our way. Who knew what their powers were like? Since they could give us our abilities that meant that they were at least at the level of the past rank of the Loucura virus.
"We'll have to go on forward like we have been doing since," Hassan said as he proceeded to stand.
Our faces didn't show even an inch of protest. It even looked as if we were eager to leave that spot. I could guess that we had spent days in that forest.
The thought of creatures like the ice bears filling the forest made the hairs on my body stand in fear. There was no better choice than to move forward. And to our advantage, we were all rested up and fed for the journey ahead of us.
" I wonder what our next quest will be," Sky said as we walked behind Hassan who lighted the way with his dark flames. She had a look of anticipation on her face. Was it the quest that she looked forward to or was it the puzzle pieces that we were likely to find that she looked forward to?
