A few seconds after the notification popped up it dispersed into the air.
"You've killed it," Hassan said his voice hinting exhaustion.
He had a slight smile on his face which for me was equivalent to a pat on the back.
"Wow! That's so cool" Sky said as she rushed over and spread her arms around me in a tight embrace.
"It just remains the last part. " Hassan said as he stood up from the wooden cart. A couple of minutes was enough for him to get a little bit of his strength back.
A sigh escaped my lips as I bore the weight of the mental battle that I just came from. My exhausted mental state somehow affected my limbs and I was reluctant to lift them.
At that moment more than ever I was reluctant to engage in any battle and yearned desperately to be held in Hassan's arms for the comfort that they provided...
Hassan, almost like he could hear my thoughts came forward and asked "Can you stand?"
My will to do anything, even speak had eluded me so I just gazed at the crystals on the ceiling that lit the room.
"We have to go, Jess" Sky said as she came closer to me too, standing a few inches away from Hassan. Her eyes burned with solace and the fear in them was slowly going away.
The corner of her lips was halfway curled up showing that feeling of near triumph. But it was too premature for a such response. Even if we had slain all the creatures we still were on the losing side. We were the ones trapped in a cold land with nothing but flimsy and ripped clothes to keep ourselves warm.
Sky reached down and lifted my body from the wooden cart, keeping me in a sitting position. They were working together to get Hassan to carry me. Turning his back to the wooden cart he bent forward and squatted slightly waiting for me to get on his back.
"Thanks," he said when I placed my jaw on his shoulder. It was a whisper that only I could hear.
The last phase wasn't going to be easy because they were still creatures in the cave paths and the hunters tracking prey outside the cave.
What were the odds that the disappeared creatures would return even more aggressive than they were before? Or that the cave pavers and hunters will return to an empty cave with three human prey trying to escape?
Most especially what were their reactions going to be if they found out their king had been killed?
Back at home, I used to think that a whole day at work was draining and mentally exhausting but it paled in comparison to what I had just been experiencing.
At that point, my mind was blank because I dared not think about anything. It could risk losing my sanity: the little I had left.
When we stepped out of the room Hassan asked me for the way out of the place and I could barely raise my forearm to point in the correct direction.
When we reached the little space that led to the path that would be our escape path there was a group of cave pavers coming out of one of the other paths.
The creatures were not as numerous as the last set that we faced but they were as crazy as them; even crazier. From the looks of it, they were coming out of one of the cave paths to go into another but stopped when they met the ultimate play things; three prey that didn't seem to be aware that they were in a predator's lair.
Each of the creatures tensed as they were filled with pure hostility and the maddening urge to hunt. Their eyes were filled with lust for the thrill they were going to receive.
The world around the creatures seemed to reduce into nothingness as their laser-focused attention on the tiny three beings manifested.
With a whiff of movement, the creature moved into action towards the three little prey that still went about their day like they weren't about to be torn apart by huge terrifying creatures.
Sky attempted to run but how far could those feet of hers take her?
A clash of claws was heard... The three creatures who had been shadowing us since the fight began to fend off the crazed creatures. Many of the creatures fell so easily because they were distracted by their prey.
Even though the three creatures were of a higher hierarchy they were still outnumbered by the many cave pavers and commoners on the other side.
It was only a matter of time before the crazed creatures would defeat the unusual creatures and find their way to the three prey.
The unusual creatures' deviation from the actions of their fellow creatures wasn't the only noticeable change. Each time a part of their body got clawed off by the increasingly growing crowd of monsters a dark essence extended from the part of the body that it was attached to and the severed part, bringing the two parts together back to their whole form, like they weren't severed at all. These creatures were undying and simply rose back up whenever they were struck by fatal attacks.
When we moved a considerable distance from the battle scene Hassan began to mumble some words. Being close to him I still wasn't able to make sense of what he was saying.
At that very moment, a huge rumble was heard from far behind us, but we were too far to see anything... I started to gain a little insight into what had happened.
Hassan had something to do with the sudden outburst of motion in the battle scene. Each time he mumbled weird things ensued. It was too soon to be making connections and assuming stuff but deep within my gut I was sure that his magic powers were involved somehow.
"Finally," Sky said as we were a few steps away from the entrance of the cave, with a wide grin plastered on her pale pretty face.
It was like receiving a breath of fresh air after being stuck in a closed room.
We were aware that outside of the cave was probably a lot worse than the cave but we still felt relief even with the scars of the last battles deeply engraved into our consciousness.
