Chapter 16 - SIXTEEN

Once I got control of the mind of one of the hunters of the Blizzardkin clan I made it to move backward, out of Hassan's reach.

The difference in strength between Andy and the hunters of the Blizzardkin clan was so far apart, I could feel it.

If the one Andy fought hadn't been distracted by Sky I wondered the direction the fight would've gone and how the events would unfold.

For the first time since Hassan started fighting the two hunters his facial expression changed from a blank expression to that of wonder.

From the corner of his vision, he looked at the retreating creature even as he evaded the other one's ruthless attacks. It wasn't like these creatures to retreat. For them, it was as if they followed an unsaid mantra 'Forward ever backward never ' till they got what they wanted.

Rushing behind the creature I made the new creature whose mind I had then invaded, stab its back with its claws.

This made the creature let out a loud growl but it didn't change its attention from Hassan. It only made things worse because the creature became more violent, thrashing its limbs into the air at a faster rate than even Hassan could barely keep up.

'what a nuisance ' I thought.

I was going to use the creature's hyper-fixation on its preys against it. Reaching for it again knowing fully well that it wasn't going to react I made the creature whose mind I had invaded, dig its claws deeper into the other creature's back reaching into the hollow in its thoracic cavity.

There was nothing in it but I went even further up. Something deep within my mind was reaching for something very important. It was as if I somehow expected something else to be residing in that empty darkness deep within the creature's thorax.

As the creature's limbs passed through the inlet of the thorax it made the bones surrounding it give way.

Just as it got to the creature's neck it felt something hot touch its palm. It withdrew its hands reflexively out of the creature's neck and back into the thoracic cavity and almost instinctively I thought

"Yes! This is it"

I was indeed expecting something and seconds after I made the creature reach up again into the neck to get a feel of the strange object that I had strangely expected to be there, but just as I could get closer to its neck I felt a sharpness drive right through the creature's neck and found myself back in the vast darkness.

'Why? '

'What's going on? '

'Did the mind transfer fail? '

These questions filled my mind as I found myself in a familiar host. Mind transfer wasn't fun at all. Getting used to the new bodies was a bit challenging.

Staying for hours in my wounded body made me get used to it but somehow after getting back from a creature whose body was more advanced physically than my body the little pain I had initially gotten used to, became so apparent and overwhelming.

I looked up from where I lay on Sky's lap, with her back to the wall. Sky was defenseless so all she could do was drag my body to the wall where nothing could attack us from behind.

Then I looked at where Hassan stood, withdrawing his sword from the creatures' necks. It had killed them the instant he drove the sword into their necks.

I hadn't realized when he killed them because I was so intrigued by the hotness burning in the creature's neck.

'What is he? '

The question seemed ridiculous but that was what I could think of.

'Where did he learn all those moves?'

I thought but felt a great weakness take over my body. It wasn't pain from my shoulders or even my right leg but was different; like something was being slowly driven away from my subconscious.

Hassan barely looked like he had almost been torn apart by two monstrosities. He walked toward us like he was just coming back from a promenade.

Sky on the other hand looked like she was going to the great beyond anytime soon. Her breath was ragged and fast like she was the one that just fought with two menacing monsters.

"Wow"

I said to Hassan. That didn't quite relay what I was feeling at that moment. No words could come to my mind that could convey how impressed I was at Hassan's victory.

It meant that we could leave the monster's den and find our way out of the Cold Lands.

'Cold lands? '

Totally ignoring Hassan's slow nod I paused to think about why I thought that.

I had given a couple of people and creatures fake names like the instructor that sounded like A.I., the stone creatures that I just called stone creatures, and even named Andy.

Yet these words 'Cold lands' felt different; like it was something real and not what I had made up.

"Can we go now?"

Sky asked gazing outside into the cold night with her face showing every hint that as much as she hated staying in the creature's cave going out there didn't seem safe at all.

"I can't. "

Hassan said gazing into the air like he was lost in his thoughts.

"What are you doing? " I asked, somehow more curious about his weirdness than why he couldn't go with us out of the hellhole.

"Why can't..." Sky was about to say something when Hassan cut her off.

"I'm checking the player's info," he said with the same expression, of someone who was really busy with something and would rather not be disturbed.

"Player's info? "

His face contorted at the question or maybe whatever it was that he was thinking about.

" The things that tell you about your stats, new challenges, and your coins and all that stuff"

What? What was he talking about?

"My stat? What does that mean?"

I waited for a response but none came. He just stood with his eyes focused on nothing but wondering about something.
