Chapter 9 - I'm from another world

I woke up and I rubbed my eyes, trying to clear the fog of sleep from my mind. Looking around, I realized I was in a room not at my house, and I remembered everything from yesterday.

Adventurers rescued me and ranted this room for me after being summoned to this world by the demon Lord. Now I'm trapped in this country called 'Lumeria'.

I must find a way to return to my own world. I must also find a way to stop the Demon Lord's reign of terror over Lumeria. I must come up with a way to save this world and return home!

Wait - what? Do I really have to save this world? I mean, maybe I can find another way back home without having to save this world. I don't know if I'm up to this challenge. I don't know if I'm strong enough.

But then again, what about the adventurers who helped me and the sweet dragon who saved my life yesterday? If I tell them what happened, perhaps they'll find a way to send me home and stop the demon lord.

But how would I get back home? I remember what Tomas said about him being a summoner. Are there other summoners who can send me back? Even if there were, could they help me? Do I have to pay them? But I don't have money. Would they understand I'm an outsider?

I felt overwhelmed with questions and doubts. I was lost and unsure of what to do. I needed guidance.

I get out of bed and walk to the door. The moment I opened it, I accidentally slammed into somebody's face and fell on his butt. He shouted in pain and I froze in shock. He looked at me with a glare and asked what I was doing.

The boy looked around my age and had tanned skin with dark brown eyes. He wore a red uniform, so I assume he belongs to the barbarian class. He had a large sword wrapped around his waist and a shield attached to his back. He seemed to be ready for battle.

Oh no, he's a thug.

"WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU STARING AT?" He snared. "ARE YOU GOING TO DO SOMETHING OR ARE YOU JUST GONNA STAND THERE?" He yelled.

The neighbors stared at us (mostly at me) as they walked by or just stood there watching the whole scene. God, I'm so embarrassed. I feel like I'm in high school again.

I apologized and quickly helped him, then ran inside and shut the door. I leaned against it, my heart pounding, and made a silent promise to never open the door so suddenly again.

I slowly open the door and peek out. I saw the man had already gone. I sighed in relief and stepped outside, making sure to close the door more gently this time.

I went down the hallway and went up to the reception desk. I waited for the adventurers to show up. They said they'd be here in a few minutes and I sat in one of the chairs and started to think about how I would explain everything to them.

I waited... and waited... and waited.

After what seemed like an eternity, my stomach started to growl. I checked my watch and saw that they were late. I was about to get up and leave when I heard footsteps coming down the hallway.

It was Esmerelda from the adventurers' group from yesterday. She smiled at me and sat down.

She said, "I'm sorry I'm late, I got lost on the way here."

I smiled back and said, "It's okay, I'm just glad you made it. Where are the other guys? Are they coming?"

She looked around and replied, "No, they're not coming. I guess I'm the only one here." I nodded, understanding the situation. I then offered her a seat and asked how her day was going.

She was doing well when I was about to tell her my stomach roared loudly. She smiled and said, "It's OK, I'm sure we can find you something to eat here."

I thanked her and she escorted me and walked to the guild's cafeteria hall.

The cafeteria had a wide selection of food and drinks. I noticed different writings and pictures on the walls. It seems like a different language which makes me since I'm from another world.

Esmerelda looked at me funny and asked me what was wrong. I told her I didn't understand the language on the walls and she laughed and thought I was joking. She then showed me around the cafeteria and explained the different food options.

I've never seen foods anything quite like it - there are so many colors and shapes! There were even some dishes I'd never seen before. I was eager to try something new, so I asked Esmerelda to help me choose.

She recommended a dish with bright purple rice, and I was surprised to discover it was sweet instead of savory. After a few bites, I knew I had found something special - it was my new favorite dish!

As we sat down and take our breakfast, Esmerelda asked. "So, where is your home?"

I almost choked my food when she asked that. How would I tell her I was summoned from another world and I had no home? I had no family. I was all alone.

I coughed and said, "My home? Uh, I'm not from around here." I looked away, not wanting her to see the sadness in my eyes. I felt a heavy weight in my chest, and I knew I had to keep moving forward, no matter how hard it was.

"What do you mean?" She said. "You were lost back in the forest yesterday." She asked.

I shrugged, not wanting to answer.

"Can you at least tell me where you're from?" she asked.

"Will, you believe me if I tell you?" I asked.

"Of course, I will." The old lady said putting her hand on mine.

I took a huge before answering. "I was summoned here from another world. Someone summoned me here."
