Chapter 4 - Chapter Four: Into the Realm of Lost Souls

Ellasandra:

Digging the hole, no one would bother to come up here. Sobbing softly, I laid him down on the dirt. Placing my cloak over him, my shaking fingers plucked a bunch of the fire lilies. Laying them down on his chest, Flames scared the shit out of me with him landing on my shoulder. Instead of chastising me, his paw ruffled the top of my head. As often as we fought, he sure knew when to comfort me. It was almost as if he was my father, our arguments always sounded like this.

"I am going to guide you through the process of moving souls to the next stage." He purred in my ear, his tail wrapping around my neck. "Now let's get this dirt back down so his soul can leave his body." Filling the hole back up, fire lilies took over the dirt in seconds. Pressing my palm to the ground, a large gray stone groaned into place. Carving his name into the rock, his soul floated from the grave. Offering him my hand, his fingers curled around mine. An oak door popped up in front of us, the hinges creaking open. Sensing something was about to change, a rich fright kept me from going through that door. Sure, I had accompanied others on this journey but this was my first solo journey.

"Once you get in there you can't leave until you finish the job." Flames informed me with a gentle tone, his bright smile making me feel a bit better. "You will be a natural at this, trust me." Glancing down at Mr. Sands, his serene expression made this all a bit easier. Pulling me down to his level, his thumbs wiped away my tears. His kindness melted a good chunk of the anxiety away, the moment feeling bittersweet.

"Little Kitty, if you can learn the most difficult bread in a week then you can manage this. Please guide me to the next place." He comforted me with his trademark smile, his hands cupping my face. "I was going to raise you myself after the fire but you were already gone. I was going to fulfill the promise I made to your father." Crossing the threshold, we stepped onto a large wooden canoe. Placing the end of my scythe into the hole in the front, the eyes of the worn skeleton in the front glowed to life. This was just like the times my father took me along to prepare for me to take over his position, Mr. Sands sitting on the seat closest to me dissolving a bit more of my fear. Scanning the area, fog curled off the inky water. The boat groaned forward, his peaceful expression never leaving his face. Could death be this serene? It would be something that I would never experience, the very thought taking me deeper into my downward spiral. A question snapped me out of it, the desire to know about this said promise eating at me.

"If you don't mind me asking. What was the promise you made to my father?" I queried curiously with my pensive expression not leaving my face. "I don't mean to be rude." Waving his hands around, he was wearing the cloak I gave him. A tainted happiness illuminated my features at the fire lilies laying on his lap. Normally I would sit next to him but I couldn't leave my position. Noting the other boats in the water, the other reapers were busy tonight. Death certainly had to be in the air tonight, souls of all ages looking over at me.

"He wanted me to raise you if something happened." He sighed through a wall of tears, his fingers playing with the pedals. "I wish I could have done that. When is your baby due?" Happy to change the subject, it was March. My pregnancy would last six months, so August or September seemed to be my due date. Flames hopped onto his laps, his wrinkled hands petting him while waiting for my answer.

"I think August or September." I grinned excitedly, my hand falling on my flat stomach for the first time. "I hope that this kid's life is a hell of a lot better than mine. That isn't too much to ask for, right?" Flashing me his goofy grin, he filled the rest of my mind with the days he spent hanging out with my father. Apparently they were friends for his whole life, my laughter twinkling a couple of times. Pulling up to the dock, the eyes of the skeleton flickered out. A bright white door waited for him, the fact that he was going to Heaven pleasing me. Helping him out, we paused at the door. Fixing his cloak and flowers, I crouched down to his level. Yanking him into a daughterly embrace, a fresh set of tears flooded from my eyes. Nothing else needed to be said, his boots crunching towards Heaven. Waving goodbye one last time, he disappeared into the light. Stepping back into the boat, sticking my scythe into the hole brought the boat back to life. Flames refused to leave my shoulders, his paws wiping away my tears. Once again, he was the rock I needed at the worst moments

"You did great, kiddo." He purred into my ear, his concern tainting the joy it usually brought me. "I knew you could do it. Dare I say it, you did better than your father." Now Flames didn't know what he was talking about. The boat turned around, the wooden vessel taking me back home. Smiling tiredly to myself, the whole event gave me a sense of closure. Groaning onto the dock, I hopped off and out the oak door. Changing my scythe back into an ax, I tucked it into my belt. Mouthing a cleaning spell, my outfit was as good as new. The door disappeared, my boots crunching through the field. The orange rays of the morning painted the stucco homes with thatch roofs, the morning festivities beginning. Stepping into the field, a chocolate brown haired girl smashed into me. Ruby reaper's eyes stared up at me, her arms gripped my legs tightly. Something reeked of hatred, her trembling body telling me of a terrifying tale. A pair of floppy dog ears rubbed against my legs, her filthy rags hung off of her skinny frame. She had to be about five years old, a group of normal demons chased after her with rocks in their hands. A snarl twitched on my lips, these bastards weren't going to hurt. Insulting me to death was one thing but threatening a young reaper was a deadly offense in my opinion.

"Leave her alone!" I shouted venomously, the townsfolk coming out of their homes with torches and pitchforks in their hands. "What do you idiots want!" A burly man stepped to the front of the angry crowd, his silver knives rested in between his fingers. Placing the girl behind me, my fingers curled around the handle of my ax. Her shaking fingers gripped my shirt, the look in her eyes pleading with me to save her.

"She is our sacrifice for the ceremony tonight!" He bellowed with conviction, my brow cocking in response. "Do you wish to take her place?" My ax extended into its scythe form, gasps of horror running through the crowd. Sacrifices woke up an unbridled fury in me, the very thought sickening me to my core. Crouching down to the filthy little girl, the tears flowed endlessly from her eyes. Grabbing her by her shoulders, her tiny fingers gripped my dress tighter. The smell of a freshly grown fire lilies wafted up my nose, the rotten stench of blood poisoning the sweet scent. Fighting the urge to blast them apart, murder wouldn't look good on my name.

"Go find the Dragon Lord named Phoenix. He will help you. Tell him to get Midnight and the cart over here." I asked with a friendly smile, her tiny body quivering in her spot. "He has hair like fire if you must know. Now g-" Shaking her head, her wild waves danced with each and every movement. Clutching her bloody hands to her chest, whimpers poured from her lips. My heart shattered for her, her next words confirming my worst fears.

"I can't! They killed my parents!" She cried out desperately, my hands cupping her face. "I have nowhere to go." An unbridled rage burned in my eyes, my lips brushing against the top of her head. Those bastards took everything from her, my eyes falling on the house covered in fire lilies. Too stunned to speak, her bare feet pounded towards the caravan parking. Watching her fluffy brown tail disappear in the distance, I raised my scythe to the attack position. Someone had to pay and they would be wishing that they were dead.

"Who murdered her parents!" I interrogated viciously, ready to cut anybody down who got in my way. "Actually, I place the curse of Hell upon all of you. None of you will see Heaven's pearly gates." Shadow hands gripped their arms, inky hand prints staining their wrists. Horror rounded their eyes, my uncaring gaze pissing off the burly man with her parents' blood on his hands. For years everyone in this kingdom hated reapers, the tension was going to result in blood spilling into the cobblestone streets.

"You can wear your sins on your wrists." I growled gritted teeth, turning my back. Releasing his knives, one swing of my scythe blocked all but one. The final one quivered in my thigh, venom coursed into my veins. Wicked laughter burst from the burly man's lips, my quivering fingers ripping it out. The metal burned my palm, black smoke curled into the sky. Flicking my wrist, it landed into the middle of his forehead. Dropping to the ground, it was time to go. Murder was certainly going to land me on wanted posters, fear mixing with anxiety. Tatty appeared behind me, her cloudy eyes falling on my leg. Healing it in seconds, Flames ordered her to go away. Sprinting through the streets, the townsfolk were nipping at my heels. Knocking barrels down, they didn't give us much space. Dodging knives left and right, one of them shouted a spell. A spike of metal pierced my left leg, a tortured scream burst from my lips. Dangling by my leg, the angry townsfolk shouted underneath. Clammy sweat drenched my skin, my heart seconds from beating out of my chest. Clutching my scythe to my chest, there had to be a way out. The ground rumbled, an inky dog snarled behind the little girl from earlier. An inky darkness took over her eyes, the legendary Reaper's dog snarled wetly behind her. Raising her hand in the air, a panicked Phoenix rode in on our cart. Taking in what had happened, neither of us couldn't voice what fresh Hell was coming our way.

"Stop!" I begged desperately, her eyes returning to normal. The dog faded away, the monstrous mob yelling at me once more. Allowing my powers to build around the tip of my scythe, this was going to hurt. Striking the base, hot flames melted the metal in an instant. My hair flew around my face, a tiny whimper escaping my lips the moment I ripped it out. Spinning it over my head, one good throw landed it in the center of them. Tatty granted me enough healing energy to seal the wound in my leg, a cloud of dirt obscuring my clumsy landing. Scooping up the girl, her head rested on my chest. Jumping onto our cart, I clutched the girl closer to my chest. Whistling sharply, Midnight took off out of the town. Running until he couldn't, a sea of tall pine trees towered over us. The little girl had refused to let go, her ears tickling my neck. Jumping off with her in my arms, her wet eyes met mine. Taking her in was the only option, my heart falling for her at this very moment. Scanning the trees for a cave, we needed to have a place to rest our weary heads. A bright smile illuminated my features, Phoenix landing next to me. Curling his arm around the small of my waist, his eyes fell on the cave. Guiding Midnight to the mouth, he shot a ball of fire into it. Waiting patiently, no creature charged at us. Crossing into the cave, Midnight laid down. Grunting in Phoenix's direction, a bale of hay was already under his arm. Setting it down in front of him, the child watched with wonder as I used my powers to make a hidden rock door. Phoenix made a quick fire pit, his other hand dropping scraps of wood into the center. Hitting it with his flames, the darkness bathing the cave melted away to an orange light. Setting the girl on a rock, her eager eyes gazed warmly into mine. How could she be caring in such a dark situation?

"I am Vera Louisa, a dog demon slash reaper. I am also an immortal. They would have been shocked at my survival." She bragged with a broken smile, her hands tugging on her ears. "My parents weren't even my real parents but ones who took me in five years ago. A witch had kidnapped me as a baby and placed the immortal curse on me. Thank you for saving me and stopping me from using my dark friend." Ruffling her hair, she snuggled into my palm. A tender blush rose to my cheeks, her love was pure. Rising to my feet, curiosity twinkled in her eyes as I searched through any spare clothes we had. Settling on one of Phoenix's shirts, she put her arms over her head.

"Hello, Miss Vera." I chirped cheerfully, dropping it over her head. "We will pick up clothes in the next town. I promise. I will need a couple of outfits myself. Sorry for your loss. Let's see what we have to eat." Shifting through the fridge, there was still a good amount of stew. Taking the camping metal plate, and leftovers, I set them up over the roaring fire. Setting a pot on the plate we had to wait for it to heat up. My breath hitched at Phoenix rolling up her sleeves, his loving gaze falling on me. A tender blush rose to my cheek, an irritated Flames rolling his eyes at my reaction. Pouring the leftovers in, Fireboy brushed my shoulders as he left to go get the bowls and silverware. How did he know when to comfort me? Flashing me his million dollar smile, my thighs rubbed together. Stirring the stew with a metal spoon that came with the plate, a deeper red painted my cheeks at Vera hopping onto my lap. Saying nothing, the poor girl had been moved around from place to place. Why not have us be her new home?

"I don't mind if I ask you. Can I stay with you from now on? I would love to live with someone like me." She begged adorably, her puppy dog eyes making it impossible to say no. My lips parted to speak, Fireboy letting out a hearty laugh. Sitting down behind me, his chin rested on my head. The bowls clanged with the silverware as he set them down, his free hand patting the top of her head. Once again, he was kind and gentle as always.

"Like I could say no to that adorable face." He teased lightly, his lips brushing against the nape of my neck. "Welcome to the family." Hiding her face behind her hands, her face might have burned brighter than mine. Dishing out the food, we thanked our god for our meal. Devouring hers in seconds, she helped herself to another serving. Chatting our ears off, Vera seemed at home. Passing out in my arms, her snores echoed in my ears. Fireboy scooped her up, my eyes watching the flames dance erratically. Snapping my fingers, the magically clean dishes were resting in their proper place. Laying back, my thighs rubbed together. Kicking off my boots, Fireboy towered over me. Undoing my corset belt slowly, a soft thud dropped to the rocky floor. Getting on my knees, my trembling hands untied his pants. His stiff cock plopped out, my sweet lips taking him all in. Remembering how I saw people doing it, gruff groans poured from his lips with every suck. Getting into a rhythm, his hand grabbed the top of my head. Moving my head back and forth, my dripping turned into a flood. Focusing on the tip, he covered his mouth to stop him from crying out my name.

"Ellie, you are going to make me c-" He whined huskily, his hot seed sliding down my throat. God, he tasted so delicious. Pulling me up to his face, his strong arms picked me up. Wrapping my legs around his waist, his nimble fingers unbuttoned his shirt enough for me to rub his chest. Rubbing his chest, his body arched towards me. Lowering me on top of him, he backed up to the nearest wall. My tail wagged with happiness, my walls hugging his thick girth. Grinding our hips to the same rhythm, he guided my head to his neck. Piercing his tender flesh, the taste of his blood made my hips swing faster. Why did he taste so good?

"Ellie, slow down." He whispered huskily in my ear, my ears pinning back. I didn't want to slow down, the euphoric sensation was driving my actions. Spinning me underneath him, he bent me over a ledge. Lining himself up, a loud scream burst from my lips the moment he jammed himself in. Gripping the rock with my claws, every wild buck sent wave after wave of ecstasy through me. Losing my composure, his hand slid to my flat stomach. Scarlet colored my cheeks, the fact our child was in there flustered me for a hot minute

"I can't wait to see this swell with my child." He growled gruffly in my ear, my tail wagging faster. Purrs rumbled in my throat, his chest puffed out with pride. Wondering when it was going to be my turn, the initiative had to come from me. Flipping him underneath me, I pinned him to the rock floor. Lifting up the hem of my dress, a goofy grin dawned on his face the moment I sank onto him. Bouncing up and down, short gasps bounced off the walls. Sliding his hands up to my ample breasts, every rough squeeze made his name flood from my lips. Losing myself in pure bliss, he rolled me underneath him.

"Did you think that I would let you finish on top, my dear Ellie?" He teased playfully, sliding up my dress. "Now I can see all of your beautiful curves." Kissing every inch of my skin, I writhed underneath the touch of his lips. Taking off his jacket and shirt, they landed with a soft thud. Moving my hand to his chest, his crooked grin stole my breath away. Moving my hand for me, scarlet colored his cheeks.

"Do you like what you see?" He asked sincerely, my head nodding. "I want you to learn every inch of my body. You don't need to be so quiet. I love hearing you scream and crying out every time we fuck. Tell me if this next move hurts." Sliding his hands up my leg, he placed my heels on his shoulders. Shoving him in to prove I wasn't scared, surprise rounded his eyes. A new sensation came over me, every wild buck had me crying out his name. Worried about Vera hearing us, my reaper's eyes picked up on a dome spell over the cart. So he had soundproofed our little session for her.

"Nice trick, Fireboy." I joked tenderly, his trembling hands lowered my legs to his hips. Yanking me close to him, my arms draped around his neck. Sinking onto him, a look of pure bliss stayed on his face. Pressing his lips against mine hungrily, his tongue danced in my mouth as our hips danced to the same rhythm. Picking up speed, his hands held me down. Climaxing together, we collapsed next to each other. Pulling me onto his chest, his hand rested on my stomach. Kissing the top of my head, his arms felt like home.

"I had fun, Ellie." He sighed with a goofy grin, the dome fading away. "I am the happiest immortal in the world." Crawling on top of him, he groaned as he sat up. Resting my hand on my stomach, pride swelled in his eyes. A rough question rested in my mind, all of the bad things from today came back with a vengeance.

"How do you know that I will be a good mother? On top of that I murdered a man today after making our situation twice as bad. I wouldn't be surprised if I was wanted tomorrow." I panicked chaotically, scratching the top of my hands. "On top of that I forced you to become my mate and now you are stuck being a father. Do you love me because I am finding it hard to love me?" Cupping my face, a silent spell healed the top of my hands. Stopping my downward spiral, a fit of rich laughter burst from his lips.

"Do you think I care about any of that? Nope. I already said I wouldn't change a damn thing." He promised sweetly, sliding a hand to my stomach. "Being a father has always been a dream of mine. Stop worrying so much, my dear Ellie." Snuggling into his palm, I wished the moment never ended. Only Fireboy knew how to shut my mind down for a second. A quiet huh interrupted the moment, Vera wandering sleepily in our direction. Taking my hand, she dragged me to the cart. Mouthing a silent apology, Fireboy shrugged his shoulders. Laying down with me, a warmth came over me at the sudden embrace around my waist.

"Don't leave me." She spoke groggily, resting her head on my chest. "I want to stay with you forever. Can you sing me to sleep?" Humming a reaper's lullaby, her snores soon filled the air. Fireboy climbed in, his arm draping over both of us. Sweet slumber soon stole me away, Fireboy not far behind me.
