Chapter 9 - First fight, it had to be with a rare monster?!

POV Kaio

'It would be too much favoritism if I only sent the weakest ones to them for now?, like even Anna (the girl with pigtails and green hair) seems to have minimal combat training (why a kid who looks like she just had 13 year olds knowing how to use a spear is a bit of an obvious but still worrying mystery), so they should be able to get along well with the weaker ones without too many injuries. This should serve as warm-ups for them to get used to the dynamics of the combats and for Connor to get used to the dungeon again after fighting only with his master (Diem, former aspiring 2nd rank knight), right?'

[I don't think it's recommended, after all, as newbies they should be aware of the dangers they may face, that's why you got the monsters to freely patrol the floors in the first place, isn't it.]

'Well yes, but that's also why I restricted the level in some places, as it would be game over if they found the Giant Black Bear right away.' I snapped at Sys, by the way this bear would be kind of a half floor boss that can roam freely around the floor except there's 10 acres from the area the entrance circle is on.

This feature of freely roaming the floor is something all monsters can do, but so that no one ends up having a "group-killer" encounter after all, I've configured the first 15 acres after the entrance circle as an area inaccessible to any monsters. above level 10, but that's a restriction on level only so evolved forms of monsters but low level can still roam in that area which can be just as bad depending on how you look at it (by the way after those 15 acres, basically anything can appear) monster in any quantity and quality, including hobgoblin boss fights).

But as I debated with myself and Sys on how we should deal with the last group of the day (I forgot to mention, but one day the reasons why the first floor was not conquered even after 4 months is that there is a limit of people that you can enter per day, in the first month the limit was 10 people per day, then 20, 30 and now 50, I can freely decide the number so I skipped 40, and by the way, in addition to our newly joined people, there are still 2 groups walking around). A group of 3 wolves smelled them and went quickly towards their diretion, while a goblin rider passed by and saw the wolves going towards the humans, and followed closely behind.

The difficulty level is kind of hard to decide if it's excessive or well balanced, since these wolves have a level ranging from 4,6 and 7 and although the mounted goblin is level 3 it has stats and abilities that surpass those of the level 7 wolf, here are their statuses to help with the comparison.

[Race: Gray Wolf

Level: 7

HP: 47/47

MP: 31/31

Damage: 27-32 (18-23 * 0.5)

Defense: 27

Agility: 35

Wisdom: 5

Abilities: Sneak Attack, Bite, Call Allies (2 MP), Scratch, Pack Strength (Passive/Active), Swift Attack (4 MP), Intimidating Snarl (2 MP), Coordination]

Much stronger than the first Slime, I have created as expected, and in case you're wondering what a passive/active skill would be, the answer would be that it's a passive skill with an active effect. What's the difference between this and a normal passive, which doesn't show anything on the side?, it would be that this is a skill whose effect is only activated when conditions are met, as is the case with this one:

[Strength in a pack (passive/active): this ability only takes effect when 3 or more individuals of the same and/or similar species have this same one. When activated, this skill is in effect, the level of damage caused by each individual is multiplied by 0.5, as well as increased coordination and consumption of vital energy.]

Quick addendum, vital energy would basically be the exp, but as the name suggests it is an energy that all "living" beings have and can also be used instead of MP, kind of similar to Qi in my opinion, a negative side is that this ability is only activated when you are in a minimum group of 3, if it decreases to 2 the effect is stopped immediately and another is that even with this ability activated, if it remains activated for a long time the monster may end up accidentally killing itself. And now the status of a level 3 mounted goblin.

[Race: Goblin Raider (Merged Monster: Goblin/Wolf)

Type: Rare

Level 3

HP: 45/45

MP: 37/37

Damage: 30-40 (20-30 * 0.5)

Defense: 35

Agility: 31

Wisdom: 6.5

Abilities: Sneak Attack, Bite, Call Allies (1 MP), Scratch, Force in a Pack (Passive/Active), Fast Attack (2 MP), Strong Attack (2 MP), Fencing (Basic ll), Unarmed Combat (Basic lll ), Mounted Combat (General lll), Plant Trap (5 MP) Growl of Intimidation (2 MP), Coordination]

A little stronger than another monster 4 levels higher, so you can see that fused monsters are both a source of concern and personal pride for me (don't ask me why rares have a type section and normal don't, that's just how the system show). But since I'm a dungeon master/the dungeon itself, I have to remain as impartial as possible and hope that these kids aren't like the group of idiots (who left not long ago but because of the flashbacks it seems like a long time ago) and end up going the other way (although, before that happens, I can put some of my impartiality aside and give them a little help by taking their attention off the monsters in them to focus on some delicious dungeon animals (◠ ‿◕).

POV Connor

We only walked around 5 minutes from the magic circle and luckily so far we haven't encountered any of the most dangerous monsters, just some of the animals that we still don't know how they got here or how they manage to maintain their populations in such a hostile environment. how much this. Not that I had much time to think about it, a little after we saw a family of rabbits (Kaio: despite the "mouse" and the "centipede" having very different names here, it seems that some animals like rabbits and deer etc. still the same) run out of our way, I could hear the sound of something or rather things approaching us quickly.

—Attention everyone, there's something coming towards us, at least 3 on the left and one straight ahead, get ready!!

I warned in a moderate but audible voice to everyone, Max and Mav, they stopped looking at the surroundings impressed and came running to the front of the group with serious faces and weapons ready, Cali stayed further back and in front of Ana there was involuntarily protecting and I stayed further back with two arrows ready to draw.

We didn't have to wait long, 3 seconds later one of the hairy beasts with one of the green demons on its back wielding a rustic but certainly deadly saber, came running towards the twins, Max prepared the large shield he had brought along with the short sword while Mav placed the huge sword in a diagonal position to withstand the attack of the creature that was almost the same height as them, around 1.65 meters plus the demon on its back. The creature first said there was Max, but when he was feeling emotional, he attacked Mav with a bite, while the demon on his back attacked Max with the saber. Both managed to defend the attacks, being pushed back slightly, but the creatures that acted more as if they were one, soon went after Mav who was more vulnerable without a shield. But before they could arrive I sent the arrows at the same time one going to one of the eyes of the beasts the other to the neck of the demon.
