Chapter 37 - First Fight

Fred ordered the archers to shoot their arrows at the incoming goblin horde, throwing orders quickly to speed up their attacks. They had to stop the goblins at all costs. Seeing the shaman using a skill to render the majority of the arrows useless, Fred knew it would be a challenging fight.

Turning his gaze to the frontline, he saw that most of them were wielding shields, and he could see panic in their eyes. He didn't blame them one bit. He was just a normal person who had a company with employees that later formed a group together when they were transported to this world.

The first trial had claimed many lives, but the majority of the losses occurred outside the city. Since Fred arrived, he had been going on hunts and growing stronger with each encounter. More and more people joined his group, and he found himself leading a party of 400 individuals, with even more joining them.

As he kept encountering goblins, he realized the value of experience and decided to venture deeper into dangerous territories to reach level 5. Currently, he was at level 4 and had already made plans for an upcoming operation.

While he was in the city, the system suddenly informed everyone that someone had managed to buy the first store. This news puzzled Fred, and he hurried to the crafting district to investigate. He saw a group of people surrounding an individual who seemed to be making small talk with Tom, a person they had hunted with together in the past.

He also wanted to ask the man some questions, but he was ignored as the man closed the door, leaving everyone curious.

Deciding that he would try to catch the man and talk to him another day, Fred left with the thought lingering in the back of his head. Later that night, before resting, he was looking at the system and contemplating the coins he had gathered.

He had known for a long time that 10 experience points equals 1 gold, and he also knew that a store cost 100 gold. Suddenly, a realization struck him. 100 gold? He glanced at his current experience points and saw that he was at level 4 with 400 EXP.

His mind raced as he calculated and quickly found the answer, something he didn't want to believe. That person who bought the store was a level 5 monster.

With this unsettling thought in mind, he made a vow to wake up tomorrow and ask the man to join their group. Having a level 5 ally would give him more confidence and support in facing the challenges ahead. With the weight of responsibility on his shoulders, he fell asleep, determined to take action the next day.

Waking up, Fred walked to the store and inquired if anyone knew what the person they were looking for looked like. One of his companions gestured towards a man walking towards the store, indicating that he might be the one they were seeking.

Gathering his courage, he approached the man and asked if he was Lucius, but the man denied it, leaving him feeling confused and weird.

He looked back at his companion, silently asking, 'Are you sure?' The companion scratched his head, not answering immediately, and turned to ask more people.

It seemed that they didn't know for sure, until finally, one person confirmed that the man was indeed Lucius.

Frustrated and angry at being deceived, Fred entered the store and confronted the man, explaining the reason for the invitation. He left without getting an answer

The next morning, gathering at the gate, he was giving a speech but mainly looking for that person. Sadly, he didn't see him and decided to leave as they were already running late.

As they progressed, things were going well until they ran into the first ambush and lost 6 men. In an army of thousands, these casualties didn't mean a thing.

Then he crossed the river and raided the Iron storage area, killing the goblins with only a few more casualties on their side. In the distance, the sound of more goblins approaching reached their ears, and they saw them coming towards them. Fred knew it would be a tough battle and quickly ordered everyone to get prepared for the clash.

He positioned anyone with a shield at the front row, but one person with a sword stood out. Though he wasn't sure if the person was brave or just plain reckless, he decided not to comment as they would soon engage in combat.

As the battle began, Fred's eyes widened in amazement as he saw the person's sword start to glow with a light blue aura.

The person stood still for a moment before swiftly slashing forward, moving at an extreme speed, and cutting three goblins in half with a single strike. It was then that Fred realized it was Lucius who had joined the fight.

Lucius, hearing the system notification +90 XP+9G, didn't have time to check what the new skill was, but he instinctively knew how to use it. It may not have seemed impressive on its own, but when combined with his sword Alure, he could dash and slash with extreme speed in a straight line. That's how he managed to cut three level 3 goblins in half with a single strike.

Raising the sword in front of him, Lucius blocked a hammer attack, making him step back. They started surrounding him, putting pressure, but he acted fast, ignoring some attacks that hit his chest, cutting through his clothes but finding a metal plate that produced a "ding" sound upon impact.

The strikes felt like punches to his chest, but he continued swinging the sword. A goblin raised its shield, only for it to be cut in half before the blade decapitated the goblin.+30XP+3G

Lucius acted swiftly, using the lifeless goblin's body as a makeshift shield to protect himself from incoming attacks. With the body in front of him, he pushed forward, using it to absorb cuts and deflect blows aimed at him. The gruesome tactic allowed him to gain some advantage over the goblins, who were taken aback by his unexpected move.

As one goblin rushed towards him, Lucius saw an opportunity. With a quick motion, he threw the lifeless goblin's body onto the approaching creature, interrupting its momentum. Seizing the moment, Lucius capitalized on the distraction and delivered a swift jab with his sword, swiftly ending the goblin's life before it could regain its balance.+30XP+3G

Around him, the group saw that he had managed to create some room, and they followed closely, not letting any goblin get behind them. Lucius continued to attack, pushing them back. However, a level 5 goblin stepped up to stop him and used a skill, blocking the sword with a shield.

Lucius attacked, slashing multiple times, making the shield shake and pushing the goblin back a few steps. He then kicked the shield, making the goblin fall onto its back with the shield in front of it.

Finding the opportunity he attacked any parts he found uncovered by the shield claiming 1 leg before he ignored it and continued the people behind him would finish it off, ad he would get the reward.+30EXP+3G

Engaging with another goblin, this time it was a level 6, Lucius used a combination of skills instantly but only managed to inflict minor injuries to its chest. The goblin attacked fiercely, trying to cut off Lucius' hand. Without having a choice, he lifted his metal arm protector, managing to block the attack while closing the distance. He felt his arm had moved and found it to be dislocated.

Feeling immense pain shoot through his arm, Lucius realized that it had been dislocated by the powerful blow. He could feel his shoulder joint out of place, causing his arm to hang limply at his side. Gritting his teeth against the pain, he tried to focus on the battle, but his movements were now limited, and he couldn't swing his sword with the same efficiency.

He pushed the sword trying to get it into the goblin's stomach, only to feel another attack from the side, forcing him to take a step back. The goblins gathered to deal with him, and he wanted to retreat and get some help from the group behind him.

As the goblins attacked without giving him time, he found himself in a bad situation, only to hear a voice urgently yelling, "Down!" It was a female voice. Without thinking, Lucius lowered his body, almost hugging the ground, and at that moment, a volley of arrows passed over him, hitting the goblins in front of him.

Not leaving the opportunity, he attacked the level 6 one, managing to slit its throat as it was agonizing from the multiple arrows in it before picking up the loot and turning to the voice.+50XP+5G Lucius said, ''Thank y..'' seeing the female was dead as a spear passed through her head, making her fall on the ground.

The scene was total chaos with casualties on both sides, but the worst was the area where the Level 7 Goblins were. Seeing the dire situation, Fred quickly issued a retreat order, falling back and trying to pick up the wounded, providing cover with arrows. The goblin shaman also stopped the chase as it had lost almost a hundred goblins in this short period of time.

In the middle, between the two armies, piles of dead and some still alive were left. The ones who were still alive were dealt with by arrows; only someone who played dead might have a chance to survive.
