Chapter 3 - Captain - Red lizard versus the white beast

Two immense beasts ruled the sky. One resembled the giant serpent from legends, but with wings. Its body was a dark red almost black, akin to the cheap wines Captain had been drinking his whole life. Its wings beat slowly while its body, as leisurely as its wings, seemed to glide up and down in the clear sky. Captain noticed that the rain had gone away with the night. A flying lizard... a dragon! Far from that monster, but exactly in its path, another beast flew toward the creature of the same species. Another dragon, but very different. This one had a color so white it looked like a cloud, and its body was so round it seemed fluffy. The wings were much smaller and had to beat violently fast to keep that gigantic lizard in the sky. It was this one that roared, a sharp sound that further heightened the sense of terror in the situation. When Captain lowered his gaze from the white dragon, he was astonished by the number of ships filling the sea. At a greater distance than where Lord Curious stood from the titan statue, dozens or hundreds of vessels were pointed toward the captain's old ship. His eyes were faster than his brain; Captain turned again to the wine-colored dragon and realized that an army as large as the one he had just seen also controlled the ocean on that side. Then he understood, he had placed his ship in the middle of a war.

By that point, his men had already risen and were as beastly as Captain himself. Even in the most surreal occasion of his life, the old man was still responsible for the men he had brought with him; they couldn't stay there.

"Row!" he shouted. Some men resumed their positions and began rowing, while others were still trying to make sense of it all, and some lay unconscious on the ship's floor. "Row!" the captain shouted again.

As Lord Curious completed the half-circle, the titan statue was behind the vessel, its eyes still shining two white lights that seemed to illuminate the world more than the sun that rose every morning. The dragons had finally met. The wine-colored dragon glided majestically through the sky. Now both were in line above the ship, although at a closer distance to the statue. The dark lizard had limbs that resembled arms and legs, and a tail with as many hairs on its tip as on its own face. The beast's face was outlined by an enormous black mustache, and a massive beard of the same color flowed beneath its head. Its movements circled around the white dragon, which only had legs, thick as towers, and no arms, only its two wings in their places. While the wine-colored dragon maneuvered around the white dragon with its claws, the latter attempted to breathe fire on its enemy's head, but the wine-colored dragon was too fast and never seemed to move in the same direction. The fire struck its body, but it must have had a hide as thick as any crocodile from the Ard Akhdar lands, the tip of Pangea overrun by trees and monstrous animals, as it showed no sign of being affected by it.

"Faster! Stronger!" The oars were weak, many men were unconscious, despite almost all of them being awake. "In your positions!" the captain shouted, and a few more men returned to where they should be. The roar of the white dragon only ceased when it spewed fire; the fat monster seemed to struggle to stay in the air, while that terrifying darkness swam through the wind. The captain was as frightened as he was fascinated.

Then, a massive fireball the size of a house crossed the dragons' sky. The captain could feel the heat of the flame on his face, even though the ball had passed miles away from their vessel. The shot came from the side of the ships accompanying the wine dragon, and it struck the enemy caravels with tremendous force, causing them to explode into fragments of wood and blue flames. They were getting closer.
