Chapter 11 - 11: Breakaway Squad

It took a day for all 30 students to become evolvers. Each of them gained various powers, all unique in their own way.

The doctor made a suggestion, "Director, I think we should record everyone's supernatural powers in a book for convenient management. It will also help everyone get to know each other, thereby avoiding dangers in future battles."

It was a reasonable proposal, and the director immediately conveyed the request. However, a small number of students disagreed when they heard about revealing their abilities to others.

"These abilities belong to me. Why should I disclose them? What if someone learns about my weakness and tries to harm me?"

"I agree. Our abilities are our most precious possessions. We shouldn't easily share them with others."

"Director, I'm sorry, but I can't agree to your request."

Unfortunately, the newfound power had already corrupted the minds of many after becoming evolvers. They believed they were on par with Alan and saw no reason to heed his words. Especially in this different world without legal constraints or moral governance, strength was the ultimate truth.

Immediately, a few friends began secretly discussing plans to leave the team, form their own small group, and pursue independent development. Their reasoning was simple: with a larger group, they would attract more attention from green-skinned beasts.

"No!" the doctor firmly refused.

"You can't leave. Don't forget that you became evolvers thanks to Alan's help. How can you turn your backs on us?"

"But, Doctor, that's not what you said. In this terrifying alien world, I don't want my fate to be in the hands of others."

"Moreover, why did Alan help us? Wasn't it because he wanted to rely on everyone's strength?"

The director raised his hand to stop the doctor from continuing.

Sofia, in a furious tone, said, "You're all ungrateful."

"Forget it, everyone has the right to choose their own path, including them."

"If they want to leave, I won't stop them," the director said with a sigh.

"Thank you!" Several students who had decided to leave grabbed their belongings and departed.

Alan watched them without any change in expression. He had anticipated this scenario from the beginning, and as the director had mentioned, they had no authority to decide how others should survive.

One student left but then returned. The director's face lit up with joy as he exclaimed, "You've reconsidered?!!!"

Ignoring the director's words, the student approached a female student, mustered up courage, and asked, "Evelyn, would you be willing to leave with me?"

"Ah?" Evelyn was taken aback. Urging voices could be heard in the distance.

The male student anxiously urged, "Evelyn, are you coming or not?"

"I... I..."

"Evelyn!"

"I'll go."

Upon hearing her response, the male student's face brightened. He grabbedher wrist and ran away.

Observing this scene, Jason angrily said, "What a jerk. He can't even leave on his own and has to drag other students along. How shameless."

As he finished speaking, several hesitant students also left. They felt that forming their own team would be more convenient than following Alan. Being part of their own group gave them more control.

The director's face turned gloomy.

"Forget it, everyone has their own aspirations. We can't force others to choose," Alan said indifferently.

Olivia looked at the man beside her with admiration. She appreciated Alan's nonchalant attitude in the face of adversity, as if a mountain collapsing in front of him wouldn't faze him.

Suddenly, Sofia turned to Jason and asked, "Why didn't you leave?"

"Well, my life was saved by Alan. I swore to stay by his side for the rest of my life and never abandon him."

"Disgusting."

"Alan, twenty-one years old, a four-star black iron warrior with special supernatural talents. Possessing several abilities: Devour, Analyze, Night vision, and Telepathy."

"Sofia, age kept secret, a one-star black iron warrior with supernatural talent of Holy. With the ability to summon Light Spirit."

"Doctor, well, that's what you all call me. A one-star black iron warrior with a very grandiose supernatural ability called the Sharp Blade Cutter, although it's ineffective."

"Olivia, a one-star black iron warrior, a supernatural plant controller with the ability to summon plants. Currently, can only summon vines to attack, and currently the damage is limited."

"Victor, twenty-two years old, a one-star black iron warrior, a supernatural bomb madman with a skill called Time Bomb."

Victor spoke slowly, clearly hiding something about his abilities and not wanting to provide too much explanation.

Jason approached Alan and whispered, "Alan, be careful with that guy. My intuition tells me he must be hiding something, and his abilities are definitely more than what he's revealed."

"Why are you warning me?"

"Because you're my friend."

The simple statement of "you're my friend" warmed Alan's heart. Throughout his three years of college, he could count his friends on one hand, or even none at all.

In that moment, Jason became Alan's first friend.

"Jason, twenty-three years old, a one-star black iron warrior with the supernatural ability of Steel Guardian. Skiils: Steel body shield, Steel shield, Pure tank—specially for protecting you!"

Laughter erupted from everyone.

Jason played the role of a mediator in everyone's life. He could crack jokes at any time, helping to relieve the awkward and tense atmosphere.

Through the introductions, everyone tried memorized each person's supernatural powers and special abilities after they were many. Initially, the team consisted of 30 people, but after 14 left, only 16 remained. It required more effort to remember each individual's abilities.

After a short rest, everyone set off again. It seemed that the events of the previous night had made the day's journey surprisingly peaceful. They encountered no green-skinned beasts along the way.

Jason confidently claimed that it was all thanks to the shit that happened in the morning.

As the sun began to set, Alan, who was leading the way, suddenly stopped.

Telepathic trigger!!!. A faint sense of danger suddenly enveloped them, catching everyone off guard.

"Everyone, be careful!"

Instantly, everyone assumed a defensive posture, as they had previously discussed on the journey. Alan then noticed a corpse on the ground.

Mangled remains. Limbs had been brutally broken, the chest cavity was covered in blood, and the internal organs were missing, as if some monster had devoured them. The ground was stained with blood, leading deep into the forest. Recognizing the clothes left behind, it was the students who had left the team that morning.

"They must have encountered danger"

"Judging by the battle marks on the ground, it seems they faced very powerful monsters."

"Fourteen one-star black iron fighters should have been able to defend themselves even against a group of green-skinned beasts."

"Unless... the monsters they encountered were far more formidable than green-skinned beasts!"

A sense of unease suddenly gripped Alan's mind.
