Chapter 3 - 3. Jealous Sofia

"Tsk tsk. Olivia is quite popular in the computer department. I never expected her to approach Alan so boldly. Do we even have a chance here? Are we just fools working in vain?"

"That was an incredible display. The arena was littered with over twenty monster corpses. He has become a symbol of strength!"

"Absolutely! With that kind of power, not only the school belle, but even the queen of the school would want to meet him"

Observing Olivia's initiative and, more significantly, Alan's receptive demeanor, a thought swiftly emerged among the injured male students.

A dozen female students crowded around Alan, envy evident in the eyes of their male counterparts.

Sofia's expression grew colder, as an inexplicable pang of jealousy ignited within her.

"No! I cannot let Alan fall into the arms of these girls. I have to save him."

Sofia took a deep breath and approached the females with confidence.

"Quiet! Don't you realize this is the infirmary? Injured students need rest. All of you, return to your seats!"

"Sofia, we want to be with Alan. What's your problem?"

"It's none of your business. But as an assistant in the infirmary, I have the right to demand some respect!"

"Sofia, it seems like you're just being touchy. Are you worried about losing your chance with Alan, so you're driving us away?"

"You're talking nonsense!"

Sofia's face flushed, revealing a rare glimpse of shyness.

"Alright, everyone, please return to your places!"

The doctor intervened, and the students dispersed.

Sofia looked at Alan and suddenly said, "You're not allowed to leave tonight!"

Alan was taken aback. Was Sofia feeling jealous?

......

It took some time for Alan to understand the concept of evolution.

Evolution was a process wherein countless creatures broke through their genetic limitations using a special energy to enhance their genetic makeup and achieve growth.

Alan was the only one in the entire school who had undergone evolution. However, in the Black Iron World, activating one's abilities was a prerequisite for becoming an evolver. Alan knew that there might be other means of becoming an evolver, but he could only explore those slowly.

"If I can evolve, can others do it too?"

With this thought in mind, Alan used his Analyze ability to observe the students around him.

He noticed that among the dozens of students present, only a few possessed innate abilities, while most had none. This meant that those students with innate abilities had the potential to become evolvers like him by awakening their own abilities.

Bang!

The infirmary door swung open, and a bloodied student rushed in, shouting, "It's over... Dean..."

Panic spread among everyone. Could it be...?

"What happened? Tell us quickly!"

"The dean has returned, but many students haven't come back"

"Why are you covered in blood?"

The student explained that he had assisted a severely injured student, which caused him to be drenched in blood. Upon hearing this, the doctor quickly attended to the injured student, admitting them to the infirmary.

Soon, the dean himself was carried into the infirmary by several students. As he entered, he muttered, "It's over, it's over... Director... we are in another world, surrounded by terrifying monsters. There's no way out. We're doomed."

The director hastened to comfort him, saying, "Don't worry, as long as we work together, we can overcome these challenges and defeat the monsters!"

As the director spoke, his gaze subconsciously shifted toward Alan. Among the entire school, only Alan had managed to slay the monsters, and there were more than twenty of them.

"Doctor, please treat the dean immediately!"

"Director, the dean's injuries aren't severe, but this student's injuries are grave."

The doctor's expression bore a tinge of sorrow. The student lying on the bed was covered in blood, their left leg severely fractured. The fracture exposed white bones, sending shivers down one's spine.

Due to the severity of the injury and the lack of equipment in the infirmary, the doctor had limited options for treatment.

"Is there no other way?"

"Not at the moment."

"Are we just going to watch them die like this?"

The director slammed his hand against the wall in frustration. The doctor fell silent, knowing that even if they sent the injured student to the best hospital, recovery might not be possible.

A sense of sorrow settled over the infirmary. Everyone fell into an eerie silence, their faces etched with sadness. They mourned the fate of the male classmate who stood on the brink of death.

Sofia turned her face away, concealing her tears from prying eyes.

In half a day, they had experienced so much. The initial shock, confusion, and the ever-present fear of death had now become a numbing routine.

Suddenly, Alan, who had remained silent thus far, stood up. He walked towards the injured student and slowly extended his hand.

"Alan, what are you doing?"

"Doctor, I want to try to.see if I can save their lives"

"What did you say?"

The doctor was shocked. Did Alan possess the ability to heal? Not only him, but everyone in the medical room was stunned.

"Alan, I know you're powerful, but this is about saving lives, not dealing with monsters. You shouldn't attempt it."

"Why not?"

The doctor was taken aback by Alan's audacity. He struggled to find the words to respond. He turned to the director, hoping for a decision on whether Alan should proceed.

Suddenly, a mocking voice shattered the silence.

"Alan, you're overestimating yourself. Trying to experiment with the lives of your fellow students is sheer madness."

Alan turned his head and saw a face contorted with anger—it was none other than Victor, lying injured on the hospital bed.

Victor, who had once exuded confidence as a player on the school basketball team, now lay with three broken ribs, immobilized and unable to move.

Yet, Victor's animosity towards Alan intensified for a simple reason. He was meant to be surrounded by numerous females, but now the spotlight had shifted to Alan.

A loser, a failure, someone Victor had never spared a second thought for.

"Alan, Victor's words hold some truth. We cannot gamble with the lives of our fellow students."

Compared to Victor, the director's words carried a more conciliatory tone, allowing room for discussion.

Unexpectedly, Sofia spoke up. "Director, we should let Alan try. I believe he can heal the injured student!"

What? Even Sofia advocated for Alan. Victor's face twisted with an unsightly expression, as if he had tasted

something repulsive.

However, the director hesitated. In the end, he agreed to let Alan attempt to treat the injured student.
