Sullivan sighed and nodded in understanding. He could spot the confusion in her and he said, "I will tell you now."
He paused for a while, just capturing her gaze before he started, "You see, Maxine, this illness makes me terribly weak. I've reached a point where I can no longer walk in sunlight, unlike younger vampires. My body used to withstand daylight because of my age, but now, it's as if the sun saps the very life from me."
Maxine's eyes widened at the revelation. "Vampires can't walk in sunlight, can they?"
Sullivan chuckled lightly, a bittersweet sound. "Most vampires cannot, but I'm an exception, or at least, I used to be. With my three centuries of existence, my body had adapted to survive in daylight. But now... now it's a struggle. I've grown slow, sluggish, and I feel an unnatural coldness creeping into my bones."
