"Maverick!" Maxine scolded, her cheeks already red and fortunately, he couldn't see them else he would have taunted her more. "They will hear you."
A bit distracted, Maverick turned around and questioned, "Who?"
"Those around us, don't you see!" She added, not liking how silly he was becoming when he was supposed to be serious. However, before she could hear him say anything, she felt his hand on her wrist and then his gaze captured hers. "Is there anything wrong?" She asked.
He didn't respond, he only pulled her to his embrace, his hand stiffly on her back as if not wanting to let go lengthened the hug. Maxine noticed the men that were some distance away from where they were and she saw them turn away as if to give them space. Her cheeks flushed red.
"I'm lucky to have you in my life, Maxine," he uttered, slowly as he pulled from the hug, his every word fueled her chest with some kind of emotion that she could not describe exactly.
