Chereads / _OLYMPUS_ / Chapter 3 - Call My Name

Chapter 3 - Call My Name

I was dropped off at a location not too far from my target's place of residence and the rest was up to me. According to his schedule, he should be arriving in five minutes. I hid in one of the flowering bushes lined up outside his estate and blended in with the night. Although there were street lights outside, the area I chose was shrouded in darkness.

"Hey! First assassination job huh?" Olympus said beside me.

"When did you get here?" I asked feigning annoyance. Last time we had a conversation, he left me with a lot of questions.

"I'm always here." He said in a matter of fact tone, "Besides, you could do this easily if you just command my power."

"No! This is my trial and I must do it on my own."

Before you start wondering what an assassin is doing having a casual conversation when he's supposed to be in stealth mode, we are having the conversation via a telepathic link. I don't really know all the details and I'm sure I even want to know.

I heard the sound of a car approaching from the distance and I knew my target had arrived.

"Enough idle chatter Olympus, it's time for me to do my job." I said and got in position.

As the target's car pulled closer, I waited for the security to do their sweep around the car. When they were done and headed for the security post to inform them that the car was clear, I rolled under and attached myself to the car. If the security had communicated using a device instead of walking all the way to the gate, I wouldn't have had the chance to slip in. Lucky!

The car drove into the estate-like compound and I quickly rolled out from under to hid myself in the garden which stretched from the gate post to the living area. I know once they got to the garage, I'd be locked in. I stealthily followed the car through the flowering bushes until they got to the garage.

According to the informant, there was another door in the garage leading into the main house, but I wasn't going through that.

I rummaged through the back pack I was given. Apparently, I didn't get to pack my own supplies by myself. I had to make do with what I was given. But the bright side was that I've trained with a lot of equipment, so no matter what I was presented with, I could still work with it. I saw a grappling hook inside one of the supplies. Seriously, this is starting to look like a Japanese ninja movie and I'm all for it.

As I quietly observed, the target opened the windows of his room and took in the view.

"Look at it very well, it's going to be your last." I muttered to myself and cringed at the thought.

What the hell did I just say?

After taking in the view, he went back inside and I knew it was time for him to take a bath. I waited about 10 minutes to make sure he had entered the bathroom and an extra 2 minutes to be certain. I snuck quietly to the base of the window and observed to make sure no one was coming. Positioning the grappling hook at the window upstairs, I shot and it got hooked. That was easier than I thought and thus, I began my climb.

Once I got to the top, I jumped into the room and shut the window behind me. Wouldn't want anyone to see what's about to go down. It was a really lavishing bedroom with a nice décor and a king sized bed. There was a wall length mirror placed on one side. I guess it was for the man to admire himself. As I shifted my gaze to the bathroom, I froze. The man was standing there, looking at me in shock.

"W-Who are you? H-How did you get in here?" He stuttered.

Shit! I've messed up big time! I was supposed to assassinate him while he was still in the bathroom, but I got caught up admiring his bedroom instead.

But wait! He wasn't supposed to be out of the bathroom yet. According to the intel, he spends about fifteen minutes in the bathroom(I don't want to know what he does in there), but it's not even up to five minutes.

"I said who are you!?" This time his voice was stern.

I lunged at him and that was my mistake because the next thing I knew, the back of my head had connected with the floor. He had knocked me upside the head with a bed lamp. When did he even… I didn't see anything.

"Do you need my help now?" Olympus said, looking down at me. I closed my eyes and tried to block him out "I wouldn't do that if I were you, look…"

He gestured to the man who was now dialing furiously on his phone.

"In just a few minutes, this place will be swarming with guards and they'll hurl you away. I hope you know what that means for you?"

The man had already put the phone in his ear, which means he had dialed the number and was waiting for them to pick up.

"Please help me! What should I do?" I said in a pleading tone.

"Command me, Ash! Call my name!" Olympus said with a determined expression and in that moment, I knew what to do.

I grabbed the short sword and sat up "Awaken, Olympus!"

Suddenly, there was a small gust of wind and I was now behind the man who was looking at where I was previously sprawled in shock.

"Hello? Hello? Sir, can you hear me? Hello?" A voice from the phone was saying.

But the man couldn't answer because I had already slashed his windpipe. It happened so fast. The phone fell off his hand and he collapsed to the floor convulsing. A bang came from the door and I knew that security was here, I swept my hand toward the window, flinging it open and jumped out. I landed nimbly on the ground like a cat, took my grappling hook and started sprinting towards the fence. I scaled the high fence as though it was nothing and before they could say Jack Robinson, I was out of the estate.

It was raining now and I was sitting under a shed. I pulled the mask off my face and fell back on the bench.

"That was smooth." Olympus said sarcastically.

"I was careless. I didn't even confirm the kill." I felt pathetic.

"Don't worry. He died before we even jumped out the window."

But that didn't cheer me up one bit. I was supposed to assassinate him without causing a scene, but I messed up.

Wait? Why am I feeling bad about not killing someone properly? Is this who I am now?

"There's someone there!" a voice brought me back to reality. I could hear footsteps heading towards my direction.

Oh no! I messed up again! Why was I lying down so casually here instead of creating enough distance between me and the estate.

I quickly put on my mask and jumped out of the shed, but immediately I did that, a flashlight pointed at me.

"You there! Stop or I shoot!"

It was a security guard and apparently, his voice attracted the others.

"You think he's the one?" one of the guards asked.

"Who cares? He's the only one around here. Let's take him." The first guard pointing a torch at me said.

I raised the short sword and pointed it at them with a serious glare in my eyes. I was done messing up. I will clean up my mess from now on.

"Are you going to slash open our throat just like you did our boss?" The first guard said.

"Awaken…Olympus."

Lightning and thunder tore through the sky, but the guards didn't pay any attention to it since it was raining.

"Hey! Where's the knife? Where are you hiding it?" one of the guards asked when he noticed the short sword was missing from my hand.

"Hands behind your head and get down on your knees."

I did as I was told and got down on my knees.

"Good, now stay there like a good boy." The first guard said as he brought out a handcuff.

Is he supposed to have that?

"W-What… what is this?" one of the guards said as he looked at his arm. The other guards soon began to cause a commotion and the first guard went to see what was happening.

All the hairs on their body were standing erect and as soon as the first guard got close to them, his body hairs stood erect too.

"What the hell!?" He exclaimed in shock.

Suddenly, there was a loud bang in front of me followed by an explosion and shockwave.

When the dust settled, I could hear the sound of a receding thunder and noticed scorch marks on the floor. Scattered around were also charred bodies of the guards which were missing some of the limbs.

I tried to stand but felt light headed and fell to my knees.

"W-What's happening?" Drums rolled in my head.

"Slow down. You used my power twice today and this was your first time." Olympus said as he loomed over me "You're feeling drained and I don't think you'll be able to move from here."

"What am I going to do? I can't get caught." I said and tried standing up, but the more I tried, the more my strength left me.

Olympus sighed "Fine, I'll give you some of my strength, but we won't be able to communicate for three days. You owe me."

Immediately he said that, he disappeared and strength filled my body again. I quickly got up and took off from that location as fast as I could.

I got to my house and knocked on the door. When my dad opened, I collapsed on the ground.

"Nna, I'm back." I said and lost consciousness.

As I was slowly regaining consciousness, I could feel tiny drops of cold particles on my skin and the sound of someone crying. When I came to, I was lying down in the rain and my mom was sobbing besides my dad at the entrance.

"Nna? Momsy? W-Why am I lying in the rain?" I asked, still trying to figure out what was going on.

"You want to know what you did wrong?" My father asked calmly, but I could feel the rage in his voice.

Instinctively, I knew why I was lying out here in the cold rain. I messed up on my first assassination. I might have completed the mission, but my methods were sloppy.

"Your silence means you understand the situation you're in, that's good. Lie down there and reflect on your mistakes." He said and forced my mom into the house.

"Ah! I imagined a worse punishment than this." I muttered to myself as the rain beat my face and my entire body.

"Are you okay?" Olympus said lying beside me and I smiled.

"Do I look okay to you? And how are you even here? I thought you gave me all your strength?"

"I had some reserves left. It's taking everything I have just to speak to you like this. Besides, I've seen worse."

"Hmm…"

"I'm surprised though." Olympus said all of a sudden.

"Why?"

"You used my powers twice today. Even Kaisidus was not able to make use of it twice in one day. I admit to the fact that you have potential."

I managed to sit up "What's this? So you do know how to be friendly."

"Shut up! I wasn't being friendly, you idiot. Since when did honesty become a sign of friendship."

"Whatever." I managed a smile "I wonder how long I'm going to lie here, it's getting cold and I might get a fever."

"You don't have to worry about getting a fever. It's not going to happen." There was a confidence in his tone I couldn't grasp.

"How do you know?"

"Just believe and shut up for once!" he yelled into my ear.

"There goes the nasty attitude again. You're seriously irredeemable."

With Olympus there, I didn't even feel the cold or weight of the punishment anymore. We talked about a whole lot of things. He told me stories about his past wielders and how they used their powers.

Suddenly, the front door opened and my dad was standing there. At first he was glaring at me, then his gaze softened.

"You can come inside now. Next time, pay more attention to details and be careful. This is a line of work where you can be killed at any time."

"Yes, Nna." I said, got up and started walking towards him. As I was about to walk past him, he put his hand on my shoulder.

"Remember, anyone who isn't ready to face death, cannot become a good assassin."

I didn't have any reply for him, so I just nodded and walked into the house.
