Andrea waited as Kyle rolled the lid across his knuckles like a poker chip, considering his options. Appropriate, since his choice could be a gamble.
She'd noticed when Kyle genuinely wanted something, he didn't make requests he knew she'd flat out reject. Do that too many times, and she'd stop listening all together. He'd also never picked anything she'd truly regretted, which made her much more willing to keep playing these games.
His suggestions tended to be either so innocuous she felt silly arguing, something he could make a compelling case for, or—and Andrea suspected this was often the case—he'd already worked out a way to twist a rejection into a victory.
"How about," he finally said, "you let me take you out to dinner?"
Andrea laughed. They were literally standing in the kitchen about to cook dinner. "Gee, you sure drive a hard bargain! Sure, I'll let you cook me dinner." She reached out for the bottle cap.
