Kyle wondered what Andrea was thinking of his childhood home. It was less ostentatious than the night of the ball, but even during the day, there was no denying that it was a damn big house. A live-in monument to the family's wealth.
There was a constant low level buzz of activity. Lawns being mown, hedges trimmed, gardens kept and animals tended to. An army of servants dedicated to keeping the estate frozen in a state of perfection.
Sometimes Kyle wondered if his parents wished he could have been the same. Frozen in childhood, tended to by nursemaids and tutors and trotted out occasionally when they felt like playing at being parents for a while. It was only when he started trying to live a life of his own that the trouble started.
