As Andrea went to pull out her notes, she remembered the slip of paper in her pocket Steel had given her.
"Now that I think of it, my lunch date gave me a parting gift," she said.
"Now I know you're trying to make me jealous," Kyle said. "How many times have we eaten together, and you haven't got me presents."
"I might not have given it to you over lunch, but I got you bail. That's got to be a couple of dinners worth," she said.
"True enough." Even when he was in a playful mood, there were some things he was less likely to joke about. "So what did Mr Tall-Dark-and-Menacing give you?"
Andrea pulled out the paper. "You know how Steel offered to tell us who his client was if we paid him enough? I asked him how much, and he wouldn't even say it out loud." She slid the paper across the desk to Kyle. "I think that means it's got to be someone with some serious cash."
