Kyle prided himself on being able to read a room, especially a courtroom. Knowing how the jury was leaning, how much of a push he needed to give them to see things his way… It was a valuable talent for a lawyer.
Reading judges was just as important. And right now, Kyle could tell that Speering was starting to come around despite himself. Not convinced yet, but open to being persuaded.
Jack Cunningham leaned forward on the prosecutor's table.
"Even if the defendant were not a danger to the community," he said, bringing his hands down onto the table for emphasis. "There is still the issue of flight risk. With such strong evidence against him, he has ample motive to try to flee justice rather than keep his court commitments. And his family connections with an international shipping company would give him the perfect means and opportunity to escape undetected."
