After changing into dry clothes, Kyle went to check the kitchen while Andrea dug out extra flashlights and the stash of miscellaneous candles she'd accumulated over the years from people who never knew what to get her. They knew roughly when power would resume, but it made sense to save their batteries as much as they could. Plus, her phone was already in the red. She turned it off just in case she needed it later.
"Ha! Got it!" Kyle had evidently received some inspiration because Andrea heard the sudden racket of him searching through drawers and cupboards to gather what he needed. "On a night like this, let's go nostalgic…"
Whatever that meant. She couldn't see well enough to know what he was doing, but Andrea was fully prepared for dry cereal, canned fruit, peanut butter sandwiches and whatever non-refrigerated junk food they could rustle up. Instead, she heard the distinct whoosh of a gas stove burner. Somehow, he'd found something to cook.
