Kyle watched as Andrea adjusted the phone and recorder for the third time, as though it mattered that they were perfectly square with one another. It definitely felt like she was stalling. He reached out to take her hands and encourage her to be still for a moment.
"We don't have to do this now…" He didn't say …if you're not ready. Didn't want to make her feel like it would be a failure if they delayed.
"No, you were right to suggest this," she said. "And I stand by what I said, I don't want to wait for him to call us again. At least this way I can be ready."
Andrea took a deep breath. "You don't have to be here." Her eyes shifted from the phone to Kyle. "...You aren't going to like this."
"I'll stay right here. Quiet, but right here." He wished he could do more to share the responsibility, but the least he could do was be on hand for her.
Andrea hit the speed dial and waited as the phone rang.
