The performers seemed well trained in picking up on lulls in a conversation. Andrea didn't remember being interrupted as she ate and talked with Kyle, but whenever there was a pause, someone was ready to step in.
There were contact jugglers and musicians and a man who in three deft moves somehow transformed their spare table napkins into decorative birds. The most impressive was a man who somehow seemed to snatch the flame from one of the candles lighting their table, making it dance and using it to do tricks before returning it to the tip of the candle. They never outstayed their welcome, and always sparked further conversation with their performance.
And all the while, waiters continued to come around with grilled meats, artfully created delicacies, and even some unique takes on traditional carnival fare. Andrea quickly learned to treat the evening like their night at the market, only taking small portions if she wanted to continue tasting whatever came around.
