Normally, his father would continue in silence until they got to the study. It had always been that way when Kyle was a boy, on the rare occasions when he wasn't just sent on ahead to wait while his father finished with whatever matter was clearly more important than family. Kyle imagined that it was to let the apprehension mount, since it was invariably when he was in trouble for something.
…Looking back, he couldn't remember one occasion when his father had brought Kyle to his study for something good, to deliver any sort of praise.
