The morning sun was just rising and outside the hospital, it seemed that everyone had started to get busy even the roads crowded. Those that were going to work had already set off while those that were taking their children to school also seemed on the move.
The usual day-to-day seemed to be ongoing and this was for everyone except for Chang Shem, who was in the hospital ward.
He had just asked the nurse about his discharge for many reasons and the main was that he did not have a lot of money to waste on paying medical bills. Forget insurance, he was sure it would not help much.
The nurse that had just finished checking if everything was fine turned her head and glanced at him before saying, "You are free to do that after the doctor examines you during the day." The nurse replied to Chang Shen before she moved away heading towards the other patients in the room, after shifting the curtain.
She has seen such people and it was not strange that this man did not even care if he was dying, rather seemed to be more interested in going to work. Even though they have their reasons, she did not seem to have any respect for such people. When she moved on to check the other patients, Cheng Shan was left alone on the still thinking about his looser life before the phone rang. When he looked over, at the small stand, a black phone could be seen and he dragged his body to extend the arm and pick it up.
"Hello! Cheng Shan! Where are you? The supervisor was just here and seemed to be requesting the documents. Have you completed compiling them?" Listening to the voice, even the good mood that had been built up seemed to be extinguished. Without even thinking too much he tried to calm down before speaking, "Let me come to the company!" He actually had already felt that he should already resign but at this moment, that anger in his heart seemed to have been awakened.
In the past half a decade, he has worked his ass off, and it seemed as though he would die any moment and all this is to develop someones else's business. Even though he was still looking like he was in good shape, that was just on the outside, his body situation was too bad. From the situation presented on the Attribute panel, it was already easier to see that his situation compared to a normal person both in spirit and physique was too bad. No longer his lifespan seemed to be going to stop only in his thirties.
Even though he thought he was seeing things yesterday, he had already decided to resign, and in the moment the call came in, that thought even become more intensified. The person on the other end of the call seemed more polite in talking, but he could not be fooled by this, after all, he had exploited his hard work all these years. Sometime back then Cheng Shan was someone of the belief that as long as one worked hard enough one would gain something but it was only after reality beat him up that he realized in another person's family business, it was impossible.
More than just that, the pay of the company seemed better than the public, but the price one pays for all this was not worth it. At this moment, he even seemed to have forgotten something, that is he did not need to send some resignation letter, rather just not sign the contract for the next period of time. It was probably because he has been too immersed in working for the company to forget this important issue, and this is a way the company uses to avoid some drama. With this method, it is easier to get rid of employees after all within a five-year period, the contract will have to be renewed and those that prove less effective for it will not get a chance to work with them.
All his hard work was with the intention of getting some returns, but at this moment it seemed that even the contract had yet to be sent out. This is probably one of the things that caused him to end up in this situation and this uncertainty is not a good thing.
Since the other side did not even say anything about the contract, Cheng Shan was going to resign early and end this. Perhaps before this period in the hospital, he would not think of this, but after realizing that he could die at any time, he did not seem to think that the job was as important as his life. At the same time, he was sure he did not owe anyone anything as even the student loan had been cleared as such the government will not come after him anymore.
A person without concerns like him is indeed very difficult for others to understand his thought process, in the past he thought the carrier would be his lifelong pursuit, and even did not seem to have plans to start a family but now his thoughts seemed to have changed. His health and life are what is even more important, and he has decided to do what is best for him at the moment. The reason he asked the nurse about the issue of leaving the hospital is because he knows that staying in this place is a waste of his time. The hospitals are just another institution that will also not stop at anything to milk him money and it was a good thing he was in the general ward, as it showed that they ranked him under the lower class in society.
He would just spend some medical bills that will not be that much after all the medical equipment beside his bed are standard set up near all the beds in the hospital unless one has some background or status in society, simply put they are rich, can they enjoy better services. But Cheng Shan did not seem to complain about this at all, after all in society everything is like this, a business. Those that have the best resources tend to enjoy the best of services.
These public and standardized services were not capable of miracles, in fact, the ones that were tending to them were just some medical residents that had started out. Their lives were not worth that much as such the best in the profession would not waste their time here. At the moment his thoughts seemed to have become even more clear when he slept on that bed, even though he seemed to have that indifferent look, his eyes had a different kind of light and it seemed dangerous.
That light seemed to give strangers some sense of oppression because it seemed to represent someone that wanted to live. In this moment he seemed to be going to make decisions that are only useful to accomplishing his goals, and perhaps that is the same for those that were exploiting him in the company. That world is like this, and those that do well in it are those that can exploit the rest to perfection. Since he can't withstand the pressure in that place it would be best for him to leave.
He seemed to have already realized something and with doing this, the consequences seemed that would not be less. But in the end, he already had thought about the situation for him close to a year from the moment he resigned he could seek another job at any time, but that would not be in any city at all. In the rural areas, he could get another one, even though the income would be less, the stress would be negligible, but he had not made up his mind to do this yet.
When he thought of the 'dream' he had yesterday about the attribute he wanted to laugh at himself before his wry smile froze. He could actually still see the attribute and at this moment he even seemed to see that some change had happened to it.
Name: Chang Shen
Lifespan: 35
Physique: 9 (Normal people 20)
Spirit: 7 (Normal people 15)
Clone: Siamese fighting fish
Attributes: 0
Looking at it, he continued to observe until he soon realized that the spirit had increased to 7 from the previous 6. As someone that had been in the office environment for a long time, he seemed to have developed some good memory perhaps it is the reason for his good work and creating an opportunity for others to exploit.
Other than confirming the existence of the attribute Panel, he seemed to feel that perhaps some kind of chance had opened up for him and the fears that came with him bailing out on his current job seemed to disappear instantly.
He did not even seem to care about his vibrating phone at all in this moment.
