Chapter 1 - A new beginning

"Meow."

"Meoow"

Green grass swayed elegantly across the medow that stretched on for miles and miles. The grass was fresh and greener than normal, a fact given how there was still visible dew on the tips of the grass. This fresh scenery was further enhanced by the nostalgic scent of the damp earth.

In this wide-spread medow, there was just one spot where the grass did not grow. But in it's place, stood a thin tree whose trunk sprouted out of the ground at an angle. Its branches spread out from the center, resembling common trees that could easily be found in the savanas.

However, there was indeed something peculiar in this oasis like place. Laying beneath the odly formed tree layed a young adult who appeared to be unconscious. There was nothing strange about the boy himself because all in all, he was well, average as average could get.

He had a slim body structure like that of a bed-ridden child. His semi-long hair was coated black, which did not suit his darker complextion at all. His arms and legs were scrawny and seemed to belong to a scarecrow. What was strange was the strange clothing the youth wore. He had a worn pair of blue pants that seemed to be weaven out of a very corse material. He also wore a white shirt drawn over by a charcoal-grey overcoat that seemed to be fit for royalty. And to add to this bizzare attire, he had footware that seemed to be out of this world.

"Purrr"

In this serene medow where even angels and fairies would occasionally visit, there existed an attention seeking kitten that repeatedly purred and meowed from on top of one of the tree's many branches This kitten, however, was not our mc.

Slowly creaking open his eyelids, which to him felt heavier than usual, the youth was slowly regaining consciousness. Contrasting to how slowly he opened his eyelids, he quickly covered his eyes with his inner-elbow of his right arm as he was momentarily blinded by the sudden change in lighting. It seemed as though the tree branches failed its solemn duty of providing shade, instead allowing the sunlight to dart straight towards the eyes of the youth whose name was Duran.

"Meooww" Once again, the kitten showed its need for puppy love by meowing towards Duran.

Unfortunately for our kitten, Duran paid it no attention whatsoever. Instead, he opted to move both of his arms back and used them as support to lift himself up till he was in a comfortable sitting position. Of course, this simple movement was only done after he had once again opened his eyelids, revealing a pair of black pupils that matched his equally black hair.

"Where am I?" He questioned out aloud in a voice which was, well, average if anything. Although he sounded very undescicive, there was not a trace of hesitation in his eyes. He slowly surveyed his surroundings carefully as he took note of each and every detail in his area of vision. After a brief moment of time, he ultimately closed his eyes, only to let out a small sigh of worry.

'There is no tire or tread marks indicating whether a vehicle was here at any point in time. Not a single footprint or indentation was left on the grassy terrain, removing the possibility that people had been here recently. This also confirms my doubts that no low-flying aircraft had visited this area. There are also no signs of injuries or any struggle marks visible on my body, meaning that the chances I was brought here by force were abysmally low. That leaves only one option.' Duran thought while ignoring the constant Meowing in the background.

"It truly seems that I have transmigrated." He said aloud, shock eminent in his tone of voice. But just like earlier, his emotionless eyes betrayed his true emotions. For as long as he could recall, Duran was a strong believer of both science and logic, only believing what could be proved using these 2 methods. But it was not like he did not believe in the existence of God. It was just that he refuted the meaning of God.

'To think such a miraculous feat would actually be possible. It defies all known logic, and yet, here I am, in a whole new world.' He thought, as he momentarily closed his eyes for only a second.

"Then again." He paused midway, letting his lips curled upwards into a dangerous smirk, complimenting equally dangerous and sharp eyes. Being suddenly transported to a new world without any warnings or knowledge about that world, it wouldn't be all that strange for someone to have 10000 questions or for them to be in a definite state of unrest. After all, the rules of living on the technologically advanced planet known as "Earth" surely would not apply here. So, a bit of uneasiness and panic would only be natural. But not Duran, no, he was a tad bit different than most people. Not much though, just a bit.

Getting up from his earlier comfortable sitting position, Duran stood up and performed a quick body stretch, arching his back whilst rising on to the tips of his toes as both of his slender arms stretched to the very limit beside him.

"Meoww"

"Now then, firstly, this is a new world. Secondly, I have no knowledge or any information about said world. Thirdly, I am alone here. Fourthly, I have absolutely nothing but my previous life's knowledge, my brains, and the clothing on me. And lastly, it's a gamble but..." He stopped his sentence midway, only to let out a small chuckle, possibly regarding the thoughts he had in his mind.

"Status" He said nonchalantly, only to close his eyes again a moment after. "Thought so..." He said again, seemingly giving up on the possibility of gaining a system. However, it seemed that the laws governing reverse psychology still worked the same even in another world, when he heard a monotonous voice in his mind a second later.

"Works like a cha..."

"Meow" Interrupting Duran's thoughts, the pure black kitten voiced its own thoughts. For the very first time since he had awakened, Duran finally set his stoic gaze on the adorable little black kitten resting on one of the tree's many branches.

"Cute!" He said in a soft and kind voice which was filled with happiness. There was vivid excitement present in his once emotionless eyes. His lips bearing a gentle and warm smile, displaying his affection towards the feline whilst reaching towards it ever so slowly.

"Puuurrrr" The green eyed kitten purred in untold delight as it felt its fur being gently stroked by the human before it. This cute little bundle of joy felt truly at peace alongside this human whose name it did not know. It even felt at peace as its delicate neck was mercifully snapped in two by the hands of this human. A tranquil death befitting its deathbed. The poor kitten had its neck broken so easily and quickly that it did not have enough time to realize it. And as for its perpetrator, he was still carresing its fury body with a warm and innocent smile, making him look more like one of the many angels that had visited this beautiful garden before him.
