Chapter 11 - 11. Dominic

"When I let go, you can't run for your mom. It's too late for that. You need to run past the treehouse, and into the river. Follow the river upstream until you see it." I knew she didn't know what I was talking about. She hadn't been with me when I saw the radio shed just up the bend of the river.

"Three, two.." I let go. She ran. She was running faster than I'd ever seen, when three of Lazarus' guards were charging towards her, their pale scaly limbs clawing at the ground. They were the size of elk, with the shape of a pitbull. Stubby broken horns sprouting from the sides of their heads.

"RUN APRIL!" I could no longer see her. I turned to the black beast before he could try anything.

"Dominic. You have to understand," He started to walk towards me, but I maintained the distance. "I don't want to hurt you. Or your family." His voice was disgusting. Every letter he spoke was like a nail being driven into my skull.

"Why does it matter? It's a bracelet. I just want to make my parents proud by finishing what they started."

"But you don't understand Dominic. The bracelet isn't what you think it is, and your parents didn't do what you think they did." I just rolled my eyes. "What do you even know about what your parents were starting?"

I look at him confused for a second. "They haven't told me what it is. All I know is they started it, so I know it's the right thing to do because I know who my parents were." Lazarus looked at me with an expression I had never seen before. He seemed angry that I wasn't complying, but understanding, and almost happy about what I had said.

"Dominic. I understand that your parents raised you well, and that you love them and all they did for you. However, adults have to hide many things from their kids to keep them safe., and what they were planning on doing was definitely not kid-friendly."

"Then tell me what they were doing. You aren't going to convince me of anything if you can't even prove it."

"I can't do that. I think you know that." His eyes traveled around the room looking for something to change the subject with. They settled on our fridge. He walked over and pulled a few berries out of the basket in the door.

"I may not finish what my parents started. But I am going to find all of their clues."

Lazarus gave a sigh of relief, and started walking towards the back door. The same door april went running through.

We both realized at the same time, and turned facing each other. We exchanged a funny look, and both went running. He was much faster than me, being that he was a Gytrash. We ran for half a mile, until we found the other three Gytrashes. They were searching frantically through the bushes.

"Where's the girl?" Lazarus demanded.

"She was running from us and fell through the ground." The shortest one said shakily.

"How long have you been looking?"

"Since we left, sir." The one on the left responded. Lazarus sighed, shook his head, and headed out towards the river.

I was furious; but I kept my cool. I walked over to watch him take off through the trees, breathing heavily to suppress the anger.

"We're sorry sir, we really tried to find her." The shortest said to me. I looked at them, one by one, and nodded them off. I just followed Lazarus.
