Chapter 52 - Practice Again

Jagat teaches the essential skills of Silat, namely kicking and punching.

Kicking uses the front of the foot to push the opponent from a safe distance. There is the side kick, which uses the side of the foot horizontally towards the opponent.

Then there are circle, spin, and swing kicks. The spinning kick is useful to give more power to the kick.

As for punches, Jagat is taught straight punches that direct the force of the hand forward and can be struck consecutively with the same hand.

"This is a double punch," Sabrang said. He then gave an example of an elbow punch, a leg punch that uses the strong part of the knee. There is also a palm strike that aims to hit the opponent's sensitive area.

Sabrang continued to demonstrate these examples under Jagat's watchful eye. His eyes scan and absorb the lessons into his memory.

The medicine Nyai Rasmi gave him was effective enough to ease the pain in his neck, though he hoped to recover one day.
