Chapter 3 - Chapter 1

July 16, 2021 (Newyork)

Tory looked at her sister's figure on the bed and felt pity for her, it had been two years since her accident and she had finally woken up but had been falling asleep since then, thankfully the machines she had been hooked up to had all been taken away as she didn't need any of them again but she had not yet recovered. She saw her sister stirring and immediately went out and calked the doctor who followed her into her sister's room. When Alexa's eyes finally opened she was able to focus on her doctor unlike when she first woke up. "Miss, can you hear me" the doctor, Doctor Nora said to her and Alexa nodded her head, "Well, you've been in the hospital for two year's now as you were in a coma" Doctor Nora continued "you were involved in an accident and when you came in there was a huge wound on your head and you had some scrapes on your body as the glass of your car had broken, but thankfully you were not injured but when we had done a brain CT, there had been a swelling in the cerebral hemisphere of your brain and it also affected the hypothalamus but now the swelling had gone down and there was no damage done but after observing you for the past two days we found out your alertness has not been 100% which was because of the hypothalamus but we don't know about anything else except we conduct those tests now" She said, when Tory and Alexa digested the information she continued "Miss, i would like you to raise your right hand", Alexa did it, "then your left hand" she complied and Doctor Nora did the same for the two legs and she obeyed the commands.

"Now i want you to answer me in Yes or No, Do you know me?" "No" Alexa replied "Then do you know the lady over there" "No" at this answer Tori was shocked and the shock was also evident on Dr Nora's face so she asked " can you tell me your name " and Alexa replied " I don't know my name, who am i ?"

Doctor Nora immediately called for the nurse and told her to wheel Alexa to the scan room, so that they could check again if anything was wrong with her cerebrum, Then she told Tory " your parents have never visited your sister ever since she was admitted here, are you even sure that they know your sister's here?" Tory didn't say anything so she continued "anyway i would like you to contact them so that you all can be with her together"

Tory watched as her sister was wheeled out of the room that she had been staying since the accident, her sister's hair which had always been black since she was born was now strawberry blonde even the part of her head that was shaved after the accident had long since grown back and when it grew it had been light red in colour (strawberry blonde). She felt guilty each time she saw her sister ever since the accident that had now seemed to take her sister's memory away, for the past two years she had been wondering that had she not called her sister and told her that their parents were trying to force her into marriage. But she was still thankful that she had woken up from the coma and she was hoping that the memory loss was only temporary, because if it wasn't Alexa was in a great deal of trouble, now the only thing that remained was how she was going to break the news to her parents about how she had found her sister two years ago and how she was hospitalized.

Two hours later, Alexa's parents were around and Alexa was wheeled back into the room and Doctor Nora broke the news to the family " After series of tests, it appears that Alexa here has Retrograde amnesia and Dissociative amnesia ", there were series of outbursts in the room until Kate, Alexa's mother, finally spoke up "can you explain what they mean to us, what caused them and how long it will last" "Well for Dissociative amnesia, you have difficulty remembering important information about yourself like your name, personal information, family and friends while for Retrograde amnesia, you don't remember past events but you retain motor skills, most of the time we do not know the cause, but thankfully we know that it was because of the swelling in the cerebrum, as for how long it will last, we don't know because each case varies, but we should be thankful that she at least woke up from the coma after two years, most patients would have already been brain dead by that time" Doctor Nora explained.
