The two doctors in military uniforms shook his hand and asked him to recount what he had experienced.
"I don't know," said Rargnes. "I... I don't remember exactly. I was sleeping - I rarely remember my dreams, and something rose up inside me."
'Don't tell them anything. They can't help you with your power.'
"Did you do anything out of the ordinary?"
Rargnes pretended to think and said:
"When the second wasteland was destroyed, I had a strange feeling, as if some energy was coming into my body."
He had already confirmed all those who heard the news got some energy.
"I see... and we were told that you were eating the local food?"
"Ah... now that you -"
Rargnes blinked and when his eyes opened, the scenery had changed. A vision, again.
When Rargnes woke up from his visions, it was already late.
"Sir? Sir!" The doctors fussed. It seemed the doctors had waited for him here all day.
"What happened?"
"You fainted. We only have a little time. We need to see if it's physical by doing some tests."
A few more doctors filled the room, with the commander answering the doctors' questions while analyzing him.
Rargnes was transported from test to test by Heze's medical corps. Heze was also present, and a goblin translated his every word to the doctors. From the little speech he heard, this first version of himself seemed extremely passionate about experimenting on a body that resembled his.
The results showed no major physical abnormalities while Heze and the commandant left.
'If you don't do anything, nothing will change,' a voice told him.
Rargnes then insisted on leaving.
"Sir, we could do further examinations and -"
"I would feel much better when I get out of this place."
The doctor blocked his exit. Rargnes could have pushed him aside, but such an act would have been dangerous.
"Who were you calling?"
"Sengrar. He asked me to contact him before you left. Once he arrives, I won't block you anymore."
Sengrar arrived, and the doctor finally stepped back and relaxed. Sengrar waved his hand, and two guards blocked the door.
"The commander told me," said Sengrar, "about your illness."
"What did he say?"
"It wasn't very specific, but he said it was related to a painful memory."
'How does the commander's power work?'
Since the flashes of visions were intensifying, he was remembering things despite the king's memory erasure. If the king - or the system - only removed memories of the precedent world that became a wasteland, it was likely that he would still remember it afterward.
Sengrar called from behind the door, and the guards brought two bottles of very good-quality alcohol and glasses.
"It's sometimes better to forget things," Sengrar told him, busy pouring the alcohol from glass to glass and handing it to him. For a moment, Rargnes confused him with the alcoholic from his visions. "Have at least one drink. There's no way I'm letting you resume your mission in this state, even if we need you."
'What kind of friend gets his buddy drunk?' the voice asked. 'It could be poison. No one would know if he poisoned you. His vision -'
But in front of Sengrar's insistent gaze, he drank, and the voice stopped.
Soon, the bottles were finished, and two raucous laughs echoed through the military base.
Upon waking up, apart from Rargnes' headache, he noticed a less significant presence of his voice. Then Sengrar hesitated and told him:
"Heze had his class sealed by a goblin mage. Maybe he can do something."
Such a decision was equivalent to owning a favor to the goblin faction for an uncertain result. Rargnes thanked him warmly and walked along the corridors, stopping in front of an iron door guarded by a goblin. Rargnes had avoided seeing the goblin mage so that no one could use his power against him, but leaving an enemy like the commander know more about his power than he did was far more dangerous.
The goblin listened to him, opened the door and went through it before coming back out, opening the door wide.
"He's waiting for you," he said with a small gesture.
Rargnes entered and discovered the goblin mage in a small lodge with many atypical objects. He wondered for a while if he had definitely left the inn or if he had found a replacement. Besides, how were goblin mages trained?
'If he wants to betray us, he will do it anyway, and he would certainly have already done it,' he reassured himself.
"Yes?"
"I heard there is a way to seal classes."
"Indeed, but the rarer, the more difficult they are to block. It depends on the number of tokens used - it's very simple if it's a system class and easy if it's a classic class requiring a single class improvement token. Beyond that, I can't guarantee anything."
"It wasn't for that. I just wanted to know if you could do the same thing on powers, or at least limit them."
"Well..." the goblin scratched his beard. "Since we only know of 3 powers from our ancestors... I would say things are more complicated. Besides, I suppose it's not one of those three powers you want to immobilize?"
"It would be mine."
"Oh? Another new power? Well, I suppose I would at least need to know the exact trouble if you don't mind?"
Thus, he thudded out the talent detector on the table.
