"Hey, Heze?" Sengrar spoke to the first Rargnes in the language of the invaders - the only one those who had lost their memory now understood. "Can you use it?"
Heze nodded. "It's already done."
"Perfect, perfect!"
'Heze? Docile? Isn't that a slave name?'
"What is it?" asked Rargnes.
"It's just a power to give you luck and strengthen you, don't worry. The commander has the power to see the powers of others, so he'll be able to see your power of the voices that you can control if you train. With the commander's instructions, Heze has managed to actively control his power to a certain extent."
"Oh, nice, thank you."
Rargnes went to see the goblin mage and asked him everything he needed to know about the classes and for advice. He found himself in the white space with the system window in front of him.
[Upgrade your class:]
[Current class effect: +50% defense.]
[Master of Defense +100% defense]
[Defense Specialist +200% defense - 50% attack]
[Mage]
[Lord]
[Dream Guardian: +25% defense, allows you to create defensive items.]
"There are a lot of choices..." he said to himself. He immediately excluded the mage and lord classes.
"Dream Guardian could be good, but I could be used for defensive items. If the choices are as the goblin mage said, based on the previous selections, it's best not to go in an unknown direction."
Not to mention that he would lose 25% bonus defense, and God knows he would need a lot of defense - something that could allow him to sleep without constantly worrying about an ally's knife stabbed in his heart.
"I wouldn't need to hunt much, I suppose."
If they really provided the victims, which he could only accept with a smile given his situation, it would be better to focus on defense.
And yet, surrounded by enemies, defense would be of no use to him: it would probably protect him from his allies, unexpected blows, or battles with a large number of soldiers on each side, but it would not work miracles.
But he didn't trust his forced allies, so it was a good point.
'Does the masked woman's ability come from her class? She's probably a mage then.'
He chose the Defense Specialist class and found himself in front of the mage goblin again.
He took out 4 upgrade tokens and the goblin punched a new class upgrade.
[Upgrade your class:]
[Current class effect: +200% defense - 50% attack]
[Pacifist: +500% defense when you don't attack your target.]
[Master of Weak Points: +100% defense, +100% damage when the target is relaxed.]
[Grand Master of Defense: +200% defense.]
[Mage]
[Lord]
[Defensive Dream: +100% defense, you can grant this bonus to anyone for a duration and lose your defenses for that same duration.]
"Wow... the bonuses are overpowered... no wonder the noble is so strong."
He thought about it. Grand Master of Defense only doubled his power. Master of Weak Points reduced his defense by two but multiplied his attack by four. Pacifist was good, but he would be forced to fight the noble, which would thus be the most dangerous battle he would fight, and not having defense would be equivalent to suicide.
"If I end up against a warrior who has increased his strength... then my attack, especially on vital points, doesn't need to be improved. Anyways, Sengrar talks about the commandant's future weapons. If I manage to find myself in the right situation, then I don't need attack but defense."
He chose Grand Master of Defense and reappeared in front of the goblin. He asked him a few questions without revealing his class, and found himself choosing a new class.
[Upgrade your class:]
[Current class effect: +200% defense]
[Defensive Mage: Magic +50%, defense +150%]
[Armor-Wearing Warrior: defense +150%, energy from all sources +100%, attack +50%]
[Lord]
[Summit of Defense: Defense +175%]
[Armor Dream: Defense +250%, increases by 10% with each ally that die on the battlefield.]
[Armor Nightmare: Defense +250%, unique ability: increases your defense by 500%, then your attack by 500% and destroys your class.]
[Dream of the Voice Survivor: Defense +250%, you sometimes get relevant information to survive.]
"What the fuck...?"
The Summit of Defense reduced his defense? What could that mean? Was it to deter him from advancing? Could the system lie?
The warrior and mage classes were great, but how did the lord class not improve? The class seemed special, sure, but it seemed too late to switch. He would have lost too much. He excluded it immediately.
Although the mage and warrior classes were interesting, they paled in comparison to Armor Dream, Armor Nightmare, and Dream of the Voice Survivor.
Rargnes hesitated, then pressed his choice.
