Chapter 56 - First ally

Does this mean that the third Rargnes is still alive? Together with Truckdriver and the other guards? That they've lost all their memories, and all they remember is the time spent on the noble's land? Rargnes couldn't imagine what it would feel like to wake up one day and have memories of only three years, with the feeling of having been someone else—something else—just not a slave.

The thought terrified Rargnes, who tried to brush it out of his mind. He felt he had forgotten something essential that could change the whole thinking.

He decided to focus on the three classes offered to him before him as he could not find what bothered him so much over that long file of memories he had inherited.

"I wonder how long I can wait here." He hadn't heard of anyone dying because they had stayed too long in the white room. None of the people he had spoken to said something about people dying right after the system called them.

"Can one stay there infinitely?"

He grabbed his phone and tried connecting to the internet with no success. He opened a writing app and wrote down all the thoughts and memories he had felt, listing them on orders.

Finally, he began to think about the class.

"I'm used to the warrior class. The mage class doesn't seem very useful; it's just for getting a small amount of mana. Do I really need it?"

He wasn't sure - maybe it could enhance his talent? He could check that now and understand the system better.

The Lord class seemed too weak and without actual usefulness—unless one was a noble, and even then, killing the noble would probably grant him the same kind of effects.

Time passed. He wasn't so sure about it since the phone didn't show any increase in time, and the brightness of the white room drove him crazy. He had to close his eyes, and even then, the boredom was beyond what he could bear.

However, he felt thirsty. Evidently, time was passing in some way here without altering the time outside.

He pressed on the mage class.

[You cannot choose this class]

The system indicated

"What?!"

He had never heard of people whose class had been refused. Was it because of his memories? Or because he had used a class enhancement token in another life?

He could test it by clicking on the Lord class, but that would mean risking 20% additional energy from all sources.

So he pressed the warrior class.

The next moment, he was teleported to the bar. The people around him resumed their lives, and he revived this person who had an open mouth and had been shocked to see the tattoos on Sengrar.

"I can't leave alone for the moment. I'll act when the fog and zones set up." he thought. That was the moment when he knew for sure there would be no goblins. And even if there were, he had to take risks now that he knew that not taking risks was the risker.

An explosion rang out, with screams and the smell of blood. Rargnes turned around abruptly, seeing Sengrar in the middle of a smoke screen, corpses scattered next to him, an integral part of the bar destroyed, while screams erupted, moving away from Sengrar.

When the smoke cleared, and people finished fleeing or hiding inside the bar, under tables, Sengrar appeared shocked by what he had produced. He looked at his hand stupidly.

Rargnes swallowed his stress.

"You know him; you lived with him for over a year. You know his tastes, his character. He's not the type to kill, especially not at the beginning. He didn't want to kill them when there was the story of the police."

"Sengrar!" said Rargnes "Are you okay? What happened?"

He rushed towards him, and Sengrar turned around with a pounding heart. "I...I don't know. I wanted to try, I..."

"Don't worry!" said Rargnes. "It's not your fault! It's the damn system that put us here. I've seen weird things over there!" he pointed beyond the glass door. "there are small creatures, more than humans, a bit like weird-colored children. They must have provoked the attack! Come, cover yourself with the others."

He took Sengrar's arm, who didn't move. Sengrar stood still for a few seconds, then started to follow.

"Do you know anything?"

"How could I? But I heard someone who was in the white room, did you see them or not? Did they explain a few things to you?"

"Someone? There was someone?"

"Well, yes... if you walk in a certain direction, you'll find someone. Haven't you tried?"

Sengrar shook his head.

"Well... never mind. Listen carefully."

Rargnes explained the situation to him and informed him a bit about magic, not stopping, even with the arrival of the goblins.

"Did you understand?" he asked.

Sengrar nodded somewhat.

"Well, we need to be careful. You seem pretty strong! What class did you choose?"

"The mage class," he said.

"Ah! Lucky you! I didn't have the choice to take it." Rargnes smiled, grabbing a beer in front of the panicked people around him. He handed it to him and said, "Listen, this person, in fact, told me that you are a special person whose power has been preserved. He gave me the locations of some opportunities, but I'm not strong enough to get them, so let's go together and do fifty-fifty, okay?"

Sengrar nodded.

Rargnes preferred to wait until the entire time was up to leave the bar alone with Sengrar.

"Better he remains alone."

He needed to be indispensable with both logic and emotions.
