"Where are they?"
RedStar pointed in a direction.
"They've gone this way; we must go the other way as fast as possible. They'll feel it when their slaves die."
"What do you mean? You never told us about that."
"A mage can sense that..."
They left and took the few who wanted to stay with them, meaning the two they had taken from the other camp and three others who wanted to join them.
The others preferred to remain, with the bit of food they gave as a sign of goodwill. It was probably too much, but "you never knew," said Rargnes. "they could become allies in the future."
Plus, they had a truck full of food anyway; they wouldn't miss those.
They were traveling in the car when they found themselves attacked in retaliation by a goblin who levitated pieces of dust and threw them at high speed.
"We must leave now!" said RedStar
"It's just a goblin," said Rargnes, his voice barely audible as he opened the window and fired at him.
"No! Only a noble can make a goblin mage act for them!"
"But they were dispatched in the tutorial, no?"
"They were there to control and select those who could be loyal enough for the invasion after the tutorial. This area must have been listed to the noble, particularly if they dispatched a goblin mage. You sure any of you don't have an extraordinary power?"
"No" yelled Rargnes as his head passed through the windows, wind, and dust rushing at him, making him nearly deaf.
Sengrar pulled him back and closed the windows.
"Hey! What are you doing! What was that?" Said a panicked voice in the truck.
"Calm down! Can somebody drive?! You! Yes! Come!"
Sengrar raised his voice, switched places, and charged his spectrum with energy. Then, with a quick movement, he sent an orb, changed to his pistol, and fired at will until he ran out of ammo.
"Drive better! Rargnes can't shoot!"
Rargnes was still shooting, counting each ammunition.
'54...53.'
"I try! There's fucking dust on the windshield! Be happy we're not down yet!"
"We can't do it! We're going to die if this continues!"
'And that's not even the fucking noble?! How powerful must he be?!' Rargnes cursed as he stopped firing.
"Just get out of here."
The goblins, alongside a few humans, followed in the distance, floating and running behind them faster than their truck.
"Go all out!"
"We're gonna crash if I do!"
"I don't care!"
Rargnes pointed his gun at his face, the trigger nearly shot by the occasional tremors of the truck. The sound of metal seems to have awakened a special ability in the driver as his skills increased.
As their opponents came closer, Rargnes shot again as they changed directions in the last seconds, allowing them to doge or let them hit their armor, stopping their blows.
"What are these fucking armors?!"
"Magical ones!"
And the mage bombarded them from afar. He had a long stick with which he used to control and manage his spells, more powerful than those of Sengrar.
A fireball splashed on their truck, getting on fire, followed by others' spells.
"How many of them are there?"
"What?"
"How many mages?"
"One."
The storm of spells raged towards them, and, navigating the wheels through the mud, they splashed the entire street, trying to find a good way. The truck crashed.
"Damn it! Work!"
Rargnes got out, slamming the door, and joined Sengrar, who, together with two others, fired their last bullets and last spells - cursing, he had left two reloads of 6 bullets inside his pants so that he would never lack them in front of his own group.
The truck was moving! A trace of hope filled Rargnes' face as he jumped in again, together with Sengrar.
He pointed a direction with fear and haste in his voice,
"Turn right! Quickly! Left now! Quickly! drive better, damn it!" The man was so busy and focused that he couldn't reply, but it was getting on his nerves.
"Stop here!" he told him.
"but there's nothing!"
"yes, look!" they were in the alley where they had hidden the portals! He got out of the vehicle and yelled:
"Follow us!"
The others followed him and entered a small fortified house, passing under the side of the window filled with glass shards.
The storm of spells kept coming and attacking them. The last one of them hurried to come as they closed the door, barricading it.
"What do we do now?" said a breathless Rargnes.
"We don't have a choice!" Sengrar stood in front and penetrated, falling into the portal. The others followed, Rargnes diving in last.
