Jason and Clementine advance. She instructed the bigger man to keep quiet because they didn't know how many zombies were in the building and couldn't risk unnecessary noises or it might draw the ones outside, inside.
That would be a death sentence and that was the one thing that they had to avoid at all cost.
"Follow behind me and be quiet," Clementine said as they stopped at the entrance of a door that led to the basement. Clementine raised a hand before clenching it into a fist to command Jason to be quiet even though Jason had no idea what this was.
She had an AK-47 but the rounds were silent like the rest of their guns, they were running out of resources and this meant ammunition.
She took a deep breath as she held a flashlight closely in her other hand, ready to advance.
The door knob twisted and she moved inside with Jason walking behind her with his pistol in hand. This was an M18 pistol and Jason was partly frightened.
He hoped they wouldn't run into any problems.
The room was desolate and it stunk, it took everything in Jason not to puke but Clementine didn't look like she was affected by any of this.
This was to be expected as she was in the military and thus, had experience with even worse stench.
The floor was damp, it was almost flooded, and there was a busted pipe somewhere for the water to reach such levels, it was reaching her ankles.
"Something definitely died here but I don't see anything…" Clementine said as she moved her light around the room to inspect it.
"That is good, isn't it?" Jason asked rhetorically and just then, she noticed another door that led to a different room. It was to the far right and Clementine took the lead.
Seeing as she was in the military, Jason couldn't think of a better person to follow.
She quickly tiptoed in its direction before swinging it open and her flashlight pointed at something so heinous that it couldn't even be called a zombie.
It had mutated into something so grotesque, the nose and eyes were replaced with scar tissue but the mouth of this zombie looked a lot wider than the rest.
It didn't even respond to their presence despite their noise, it didn't move or is it more accurate to say that it couldn't move? The legs had merged with the ground.
"Is this it?" Clementine asked. This couldn't be it because the door was shut but it also showed that Clementine's sweeping had leaks, she wasn't as thorough as she thought.
[Ding!]
[Quest Received!]
Jason's heart skipped a beat because this wasn't the time for such a thing, he needed to focus and Chronos popping up now could be nothing but bad news.
[Survive The Horde!]
"Wait, what?" Jason was confused because that's what they were doing but the zombie opened its mouth wide just then and a shrieking cry reverberated. It was so loud that they both had to cover their ears
They were both disorientated as they dropped to their knees, this was only because they were within proximity of the zombie.
Clementine managed to let off her gun but the silencer had unknowingly come off, shooting it multiple times in the body and into the zombie's deformed head, killing it.
There was no way that the other zombies didn't hear this.
"FUCK!" Clementine cussed as she ran outside of the storage room past Jason, who followed behind her like a puppy.
"FUCK! FUCK! FUCK!" Clementine kept cussing, running to the window to check if the zombies had heard the gunshot and just like she expected, the zombies did.
The zombies in the building that she had missed were already in her position, limiting what she could do.
The zombies outside began walking towards the building, the building was surrounded so escaping was out of the question.
Clementine knew this was the worst-case scenario but she wasn't going to go down with a fight as she began firing away at the zombies without suppressors, it was futile using it seeing as the zombies were already converging at their location.
Jason took a deep breath, If he had a system, it had to have other functions that could help him survive this mess that he found himself in.
He just had to learn how to use it and Chronos heeded the subconscious call of his owner.
[Ding!]
[Options Available!]
This was the first time Jason was seeing this particular set of commands so naturally, he was curious to see just what these options were and if they would increase the probability of his survival.
[Option A: Abandon Clementine!]
[Option B: Stand With Clementine!]
The thought of abandoning the woman only crossed Jason's mind when the option was listed, he never thought about it otherwise but it was a good option.
Jason's eyes dimmed, and his demeanor changed as he took a step back.
Jason looked over his shoulder and realized he had a clear path. If he left Clementine then he should be able to get back there without any problems but he also understood that leaving her to die here would reduce the firepower that they already lacked.
The horde was coming and they were caught right in the middle of it so they needed all the help they could get.
Clementine's gun jammed and in the process of trying to fix it up, she stumbled onto the floor and this left her wide open to the zombies. The zombie was about to grab her but bullets pierced the zombie's body multiple times before it eventually hit the head.
The fact that he could shoot the zombie was impressive but that was because the pistol had little recoil.
Clementine managed to fix her gun up in time and fire away, killing the remaining zombies in sight. The glasses and doors shattered in the distance as both Clementine and Jason fled.
