Chapter 76 - Flatlined

Andor –

Honestly, I wish I knew I was going to get the gift of accidentally setting everything ablaze. Ashina's powers, which she subconsciously shared with me, suddenly took on a life of their own.

When I learned Ashina had abandoned me in her quest to regain her kingdom, I was overwhelmed with anger. As a result of this anger, I blew things up and set things on fire in my office. The omegas probably worked for several days to repair everything that I destroyed in my office.

When one of the warriors touched Ashina's shoulder, my inner anger slammed the warrior into a nearby tree with the force of a tornado. In the infirmary, that warrior remains.

As a result, Ashina assigned me a witch bodyguard, whose purpose is not to protect me from others, but to protect others from me. I am also receiving instructions from this witch about how to control my temper and my magic. It seems that magic can be driven by emotions.

Our plan is to enter the castle as quietly as possible and as soon as possible. In order to save Ashina's mother, we had to act quickly.

As Dean led us through the hidden bunker first, he then took us through the city in order to get everyone out before all mayhem breaks out.

As I walked through the darkened tunnels, I felt shivers run up my spine. I felt like I was watching one of those scary movies where you yell at the main character for being an idiot. You tell him or her to turn around because they will not be able to live through this psycho scene.

Ashina and I are holding hands and I know she felt my shiver, she squeezed my hand. Somehow, I felt like the damsel in distress and less like the knight in shining armor.

My ego and my wolf would not allow that vibe to continue. I brought Ashina close to me, grabbing her by the waist. "Baby, don't worry I am here to protect you!"

That's how I expressed my he-man persona. Now I'm a man. That is, until I heard Ashina snort and shake her head. She would probably roll her eyes sarcastically at my comment about He-man if I looked into her eyes.

The path in this particular area of the tunnel reached a dead end, bringing our group to an abrupt stop. It was then that I realized what an awesome thing magic is. Dean demonstrated this was a fake wall by putting his hand through it, showing that it was an illusion. This is the point at which Dean passes through the fake wall and disappears on the other side.

All of us walked in following Dean's lead. My wolf will not let me let go of Ashina, we are Alphas, and it is in our very nature to protect my mate, no matter how skilled at fighting Ashina (my beautiful mate) might be.

Just as Ashina described, this place was amazing, modernized and pretty empty, since Dean guided most of the wolves through the tunnels to tents for each family, and medics for any injured.

Dean came over to tell us that more wolves had just been brought into the bunker for medical attention. As Ashina and I walked towards the mini hospital, a scene appeared. In the room was a woman and her daughter lying on a table with welts and scars all over them. There was no doubt that they had been attacked and left for dead.

Ashina gasped out loud, "It's the maid and her daughter who went missing. This is Malcolm's daughter. What kind of father could do this to his own child and mate?" Her voice was filled with horror and sorrow as she asked why anyone would hurt anyone this way.

Their bodies were covered in burns. Heart monitors, blood feeds, and drips were set up for them as they barely breathed. Both the child and her mother were pale as a result of losing so much blood. Doctors were doing everything they could to help the child heal, but the child is not at the age where a wolf would expedite the healing process.

Stepping into another room, my eyes started to tear up while my fists clenched in anger and hatred towards Malcolm. This is when I recognized Ashina's mother immediately on the gurney that was being treated with defibrillators. Ashina could have been a clone of her mother. The two of them looked so much alike.

It took the doctors seconds to get the heart to start, and seconds later it stopped again. As Ashina hurried to sit next to her mother, she pulled up a chair. Streams of tears flow out of her uncontrollable emotions. Seeing the heart-wrenching scene unfold in front of her, Ashina was hit by torrents of rain. As she watched, she felt like she was drowning in these emotions.

I pleaded with the moon goddess not to let Ashina go through this pain and to allow her mother to live. After going through so much, she and her family were exhausted and needed a break from their trials and tribulations. Ashina and I are one soul and one heart, and my heart loved Ashina so much that it is like knives into both of our hearts, digging out our very soul and shredding it into tiny shards of pain.

As I watched my mate's mother succumb to death repeatedly, I could tell that Ashina was exhausted from the repetition of her mother dying.

Ashina had had enough of seeing her mother die and be resuscitated repeatedly. This is when Ashina pushed the doctors out of the way and jumped on top of her mother. Ashina called upon lightning bolt electricity to shock her mother's heart and prayed out loud. "Please moon goddess, please let me get to know my mom, and feel what a mother's love could be. Please, please moon goddess?"

Suddenly, there was hope when the machine that showed her mother's flatline started beeping, beeping, beeping. Her mother flatlined again after Ashina's shock therapy didn't work like the machine that pumped her mother's heart previously.

The doctor looked at the clock on the wall, "Time of Death."

That is when I yelled "STOP!"
