Chapter 2 - Chapter 2: The war

Armies in red armor approached us at great speed. The sound of their horses almost made me deaf. The dust they carried made it impossible to see them properly. Fear gripped me tightly. My gut twisted at the sight. We had heard the sound of their horses coming from afar when we quickly left our camp to meet them halfway. There was no way we were going to let them attack us in our camp. Despite covering up with blankets some hours ago, the bugs still ate the hell out of me.

I sat on my horse as we waited on the vast land for the Baldish armies.

Yes, I had thousand of armies with me but I just couldn't get rid of the fear in me. What if something goes wrong? Even when I had discussed all the war strategies with the general, I still don't have any confidence in myself.

I looked at my men and noticed that they were all waiting for my order.

" Just attack!" I yelled and before I could blink my eyes, my armies rushed forward to attack the Baldish armies that were still feet away from us.

" Move," I instructed the horse and it made a turn, almost falling me to the ground but I hold on tightly. I may look like a coward now but my safety was my first priority.

I couldn't just stand there and watch while the armies fight. A blade might cut me from behind.

I won't be stupid to stand in the middle of a war and get myself killed. I ran meters away from the battlefield and jumped down from the horse. I hide behind a hill and removed my bow from my back. I could just shoot the enemies from here while protecting myself.

Clashes of swords and war cries filled my ears. For a while, I was too stunned to pull my arrows. I just watched in horror as horses sleighs and fell to the ground.

I shook my head to get out of my trance and I pulled on the bow with all the strength in me. The arrow flew all the way and hit a Baldish army on the skull. A smile crept on my face, knowing that I didn't miss my first shot.

I straightened myself and shot two arrows at the same time. Two armies fell to the ground and I shot another one.

It felt safe up here because I could shoot anybody I like. I pulled the bow and four arrows flew across, hitting four Baldish armies. Blood oozed and gushed like fluids. It was my first time in a war and I resisted the urge to throw up from the stench of blood. My intestines were twisting and the stench was too much for me to handle.

I dropped my bow&arrow and ran to a corner to throw up.

The war went on for hours and the Baldish armies finally retreated. I could finally heave a sigh of relief as we return to our camp.

" Have something to eat your highness," General Philip handed me a sandwich and a bottle of water.

" Thanks for leading the armies earlier," I told him but he fell to his knees and kowtowed to me.

" I dare not accept your thanks, your highness. It was my duty as the general." He said and I just smiled.

" All of you should get something to eat," I ordered and took a bite of my sandwich.

After I finished eating, I walked around the camp to check on the wounded armies and instructed the physicians we brought along to tend their wounds quickly.

There was a possibility that the Baldishian's armies will attack us tonight.

I discussed our next attack with General Philip before taking a rest. As predicted, Baldishian's armies attacked before nightfall.

The armies pushed swords into each other's bellies. Heads rolled on the ground and half bodies laid on the ground.

The Baldish armies were having the upper hand and we were on the losing end. I needed to do something.

I ran out of my hiding place with my sword in my hand. I held it tightly as I was determined to behead the Baldishian's army leader, Prince Jack. Didn't they say when the army leader is killed, every other person surrenders?

An army ran in my direction and I swung the blade at him. Blood spilled on my face as his head fell to the ground with a loud thud. I just beheaded a man. His body fell to the ground as well and my eyes travelled to the blonde head on the ground. His eyes bored into my soul and I stood there rooted to the spot. Unable to speak or move.

He was young and seemed to be in his early twenties. I had just killed someone's child, a brother, or maybe a father or husband to someone.

" Stop the war!" I screamed at the top of my lungs but none of them heard me. The clashing sounds of swords and piercing cries of the fallen warriors covered my voice.

" This is war princess, you need to get your emotion in place." I heard a mockery voice behind me. The voice was stern and I knew it didn't belong to my men. They wouldn't address me as a princess. Yes, he was right. I shouldn't let my emotions take the best of me. Young or old, as long they were wearing the Baldish army uniform they were my enemy and deserves to die.

" You still have time to retreat your armies because you will definitely lose the war. " I turned around and saw a man on a horse. His blonde hair was braided backward and he had emerald eyes. I would have loved to retreat my armies but what was the use when we could have won if it was Elena that lead the army?

" I was expecting Princess Elena. I never expected the weak crown princess of Brocrest. " He mocked with a smirk on his face.

That was it, I was known as the weak crown princess of Brocrest. This was all father's fault. He wouldn't let me touch the blade because he was being overprotective of me.

" Kill him, Valerie. The war will be over if you kill him. You will be victorious. Kill him, Valerie." The voice chanted in my head and I felt myself swinging my sword.

"Argh!" He screamed and jumped off the horse. He held his hand and I knew I had cut him with the blade.

Damn! I could have swung it at his head. He would have been laying lifeless on the ground right now.

" You're unpredictable aren't you?" He smirked and looked at the blood on his arm.

What now, he was surely going to fight me back or even behead me.

"Retreat your men." The words left my mouth before I could say them and his chuckle sent shivers down my spine. He must be making mockery of me right? No army in his right senses would give in to his enemy's request by retreating his armies and accepting defeat when he could easily win the war.

" Is that a threat of order?" He arched his brow and I gulped. I wasn't going to tremble under his intimidating glare.

" I see that you're different from your sister. She deserves the crown that you own. " There we go again, bringing Elena into the picture. She didn't only make me come to this war to die, she made me come here so that this annoying prince could mock me and humiliate me before killing me.

" Don't worry, I'm not going to kill you." He chortles as if he read my thoughts. He must be brave to be able to smile on a battlefield when his arm was bleeding.

" I will kill all your men and take you home as my slave." My heart leaped into my throat. Judging from his tone and his expression, he meant every word he said.

Why did I have the feeling that he was working with Elena?

Elena would be happy if she finds out that I was taken to Baldish as a slave for the crown prince Jack. It was like getting rid of me in a humiliating way.

" I would rather die than let you take me away!" I snarled and tightened my grip around the blade handle with my heart thumping in my chest.

" As you wish princess." He smirked and launched towards me. I dodged his first attack but I wasn't so fortunate, his blade cut me on my chest and I felt a sting.

Blood dripped down on my breasts and down to my belly. There was no doubt that he was aiming for my neck. He truly couldn't wait to get rid of me.

I ignored the pain and drew my sword. I swung it at him but he knocked it away and I fell on my butt. My chest rose and fell. My breath was haggard and my heart was beating hard against my chest.

" Enjoy your life in hell princess," he smirked and swung his sword in the air. I shut my eyes tight and waited for my head to roll off my neck but I only heard a loud thud.

" You can open your eyes now," I heard an icy voice that made my body tremble. It was the voice of a man and it wasn't that of Prince Jack.

I opened my eyes slowly and there he stood. Dressed in a black cloak, his hands folded on his chest and his black Raven hair covering one part of his face. He was the man in my dreams. The silver-eyed man.
