Adrian's POV
Adrian grazed through the luscious grass, humming to himself like this is the best day of his life. This, in a way, is indeed turning out to be his best day ever. This was a fresh start for him. A fresh new world with opportunities, excitement, and adventure.
His thoughts were suddenly interrupted by a sudden screech that sent shivers down his spine. He looked behind him and saw the dark silhouette of a giant winged beast.
"What is that?" His eye widened seeing the giant beast towering above him, its wings casting a shadow over the landscape. Fear surged through Adrian's veins as he realized the imminent danger he was facing.
The creature's scaled body shimmered in the sunlight, its eyes gleaming with an otherworldly intensity. It let out another bone-chilling screech, causing Adrian to stumble backward, his heart pounding in his chest.
In a split second, his mind raced through the possibilities. Should he run? Should he try to hide? But before he could make a decision, the creature lunged forward, its razor-sharp claws reaching out for him.
'It's just a giant bird, that's it. Just scare it away!'
For the uncultured and uneducated Adrian, who never had anyone to read him fantasy tales, this majestic giant winged creature was just another large bird. He doesn't even know the fantasy world has magic and other races.
With renowned vigor, he screamed and launched at the bird. "Aaarghhh, come at me birdie!!"
Adrian's fearless charge caught the majestic beast off guard. Its eyes widened in surprise, a mixture of confusion and amusement flickering across its scaled face. The creature halted in mid-air, its wings momentarily frozen in mid-flap.
Adrian, fueled by his own foolish bravery, flailed his arms and shouted, "Take that, you oversized pigeon! You think you can scare me? Think again!"
The beast tilted its head, its expression a mix of disbelief and amusement. It seemed almost as if the creature was questioning its own existence at that very moment. Surely, it had never encountered a human with such audaciousness before. Its big ethereal eyes register the stupid human wholly.
As Adrian continued his futile assault, the beast's confusion turned into mild amusement. It let out a low rumble, which, to Adrian's ears, almost sounded like laughter. Its eyes focused on his bag and for a second, he thought its eyes quivered in fear.
With a subtle flick of its tail, the beast gently nudged Adrian aside, its massive form barely affected by his feeble attempts. It spread its wings, ready to take flight and put an end to this comical encounter.
Adrian, oblivious to the creature's decision, stood there triumphantly, his chest puffed out. "That's right! You better run, you overgrown chicken!"
And with a mighty flap of its wings, the ethereal beast ascended into the sky, leaving Adrian dumbfounded and alone on the ground.
"Pheeww~" He wiped the sweat from his forehead like he wasn't about to be eaten alive if it wasn't for his stupidity. But there was no reason for him to know that, is there?
"That was really a majestic bird, I must say." He scratched his neck and looked at the dimming silhouette of the giant white bird. "I wonder what it's called?" He kicked a rock on the ground, which rolled a few feet away. He looked down at the rock and then back at the bird. "It had a look of a stupid lizard, injected with hormones," he giggled to himself. "Maybe it's that lizard from that movie people were talking about a few years ago. The one with the giant ape and the giant lizard fighting for supremacy. People really do love to waste money for seeing shit like that."
Suddenly, he heard a clanking sound from behind, like someone dropped something. He turned to see some crazy kids still in their Halloween costumes. "Kids, this is July, Halloween is in October." The costume was really striking, like the greenish color, and the yellow eyes almost felt real. Not to mention the pointy, fat ears. "Wait a minute, is Halloween in July here? Or is this October in these lands?" He walked towards them, fingers stroking his non-existing beard.
The remainder of the kids in Halloween costumes, about 8 of them, all dropped their weapons on the ground. Their pupils shook as he casually approached them without any ounce of fear in his eyes. "Tis Human. No fear." One of them said, its voice quivering a little.
"Dreadfyre. Scared he." another one mumbled, relishing the scenery where the powerful human scared the mighty beast away with a shout.
He approached the first goblin, a mischievous glint in his eyes. "Hmmm... The costume is perfect," he remarked as he circled around the bewildered creature. The other goblins stepped aside, allowing him to inspect his new playmates. "And the tail, oh, it's a great addition," he exclaimed, reaching out to grab the tail, causing the goblin to yelp in surprise. He coiled the tail in his hand, then quickly uncoiled it. "It's almost real, isn't it?" he teased, giving the tail a playful tug. "Want me to pull it out? Eh, eh, eh?" A sinister smile crept across his face as he glanced at the other goblins, who nervously backed away, unwilling to test his strength.
"Human scary," one of the goblins stuttered, her voice trembling with fear.
Adrian raised an eyebrow, pretending to be intrigued. "What are you? Seven years old? Can't even make a coherent sentence yet?" He released his grip on the tail and shook his head disapprovingly. "Whoever made this costume must be a talented person. I mean, just look at you—madly ugly and smelly, too." The goblin's face went pale, and it cowered down, a mixture of embarrassment and fear. "But hey, you have your skills. Maybe you can be an actor or something," he added, patting the goblin's head playfully. As he did so, he couldn't help but pull on the goblin's cheeks, causing its face to stretch and contort. A strange fluid leaked out from the goblin's body, smelly and viscous, wetting its leather and pooling beside his foot.
Adrian's expression twisted into one of disgust. He jumped back, his face cringing in revulsion. "Did you really wet your pants?" he exclaimed, his voice filled with both horror and amusement. "Oh my god, you actually did!" He quickly wiped his hands on his clothes, shaking his head in disbelief. "Ewww, I can't believe I touched that."
The other goblins erupted into snickers and laughter, finding immense joy in witnessing their superior wetting his pants at the mere sight of a human. Adrian couldn't help but shake his head, a mixture of amusement and disbelief on his face. "You lot really are a bunch of strange creatures, aren't you?"
He watched the other kids, silently applauding their costumes. Like it was a masterpiece. He never had seen something authentic and real at any of the Halloween parties, ever.
"It's getting late," he said to them. "Can you take me to your house, too? I'm too hungry. And I'm new here."
The goblins stared at him with their wide yellow eyes, not quite sure what to say.
"It's just a question," he repeated, raising his hands in defense. "I'm hungry." He pointed at his stomach and rubbed it. "Hungry, hungry," he made an act of eating something. "If you don't feed me, I will eat you instead." He grinned.
The goblins didn't understand his words, but his actions were clear. They shivered and nodded at him and pointed in a direction. "Eat. There. Homes."
"Man, even your sound effects are awesome!" He exclaimed. It was a genuine compliment. "Alrighty, lead the way."
So, the journey started for Adrian. A new journey where he hoped to become something great.
